    Job Description

    Family office is looking for an individual to oversee the Principal’s tax, estate and financial planning, investments, philanthropic giving, trust administration and financial reporting. The family office oversees multiple entities, including a foundation, multiple trusts, multiple family partnerships and LLCs.

    The family office also uses external service providers, including trust and estate attorneys, investment advisors, tax CPAs, and foundation consultants.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    Responsibilities will include executing transactions, maintaining accurate and current general ledgers, providing tax support for Principal and their related entities, and financial reporting. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Director of Operations and Principal. This is a wonderful opportunity to work in a complex, sophisticated environment with challenging work. It is a remote contract position with an occasional in-person meeting in San Francisco.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Duties assigned may include, but will not be limited to, the following tasks relating to various family entities which may include trusts, LLCs and partnerships, individuals, and foundations:

    • “Own” the accounting function – expected to have intimate knowledge of and ownership of all transactions under your purview; expected to anticipate problems and flag issues
    • Direct, hands-on work executing daily, monthly, and annual transactions including:
      • Enter and pay recurring and non-recurring bills and payroll
      • Record brokerage transactions, including buying and selling of securities and the related realized and/or unrealized gains/losses
      • Record venture capital and other private investment transactions including capital calls, distributions, and unrealized gains and losses
      • Process charitable donations, stock gifts and transfers
      • Prepare monthly bank and brokerage statement reconciliations
    • Working with the Accounting team:
      • Prepare quarterly and annual tax workpapers and packages to send to external tax team
      • Prepare interim and final audit workpapers to send to external auditors (foundation only)
    • Projects:
      • Track and reconcile tax basis in partnership and LLC investments
      • Track tax basis of real property acquired by Principal
      • Preparation of tax filings (1099s)
      • Ad hoc projects which could include, property tax payments, Secretary of State statements of information, and others

    QUALIFICATIONS

    The successful candidate will be an experienced tax accountant, most likely with experience as a staff member or senior in the tax department of a Big‐4 or regional public accounting firm and will possess the following qualifications:

    Experience and Education:

    • 2-4 years of tax experience in a public accounting firm or similar
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
    • CPA is a plus
    • Experience with individual, trust and partnership taxes
    • Proficient with QuickBooks Online
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Excel, and Word
