Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care during the perioperative period. This role involves preparing patients for surgery, assisting the surgical team intraoperatively, and monitoring recovery post-surgery. The RN OR ensures patient safety, maintains sterile techniques, coordinates with multidisciplinary teams, and delivers compassionate, evidence-based nursing care.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare the operating room, ensuring all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and sterile.
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for surgical patients.
Serve as scrub nurse and/or circulating nurse during surgical procedures.
Adhere to infection control and safety protocols at all times.
Administer medications and monitor patients’ vital signs, comfort, and status before, during, and after procedures.
Document nursing care, patient responses, and surgical details accurately in medical records.
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals to provide safe and efficient surgical care.
Provide patient and family education regarding surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and post-operative care.
Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies in the OR.
Maintain continuing education to stay updated with best practices and surgical nursing advancements.
Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.
Licensure: Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Perioperative Nursing (CNOR) certification preferred.
Experience: Previous OR or perioperative nursing experience preferred \
