Position Summary:

The Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN) provides compassionate, high-quality care to patients who require close monitoring and frequent assessment, yet do not need intensive care. The RN is responsible for assessing patient needs, developing and implementing individualized care plans, and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide direct patient care for moderately to critically ill patients in a step-down or telemetry environment.

Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and lab results to identify early signs of patient deterioration.

Administer medications, including IV infusions, per physician orders and in accordance with hospital policy.

Coordinate and communicate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other members of the healthcare team.

Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).

Educate patients and families regarding disease processes, medications, and post-discharge care.

Respond appropriately to emergencies and implement rapid response or code blue protocols as needed.

Ensure compliance with all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice projects.

Precept and mentor new staff and nursing students as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred).

Licensure/Certification:

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required

Specialty certification (e.g., PCCN – Progressive Care Certified Nurse) preferred.
