Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) – Surgery is responsible for providing direct patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures. The RN collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the surgical team to ensure safe, effective, and high-quality patient care in the operating room.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare patients for surgical procedures by reviewing medical history, obtaining vital signs, and ensuring informed consent.
Assist surgeons and surgical team members during procedures by maintaining sterile technique and providing necessary instruments and supplies.
Monitor patients’ vital signs and condition during surgery.
Ensure operating room equipment is properly prepared, functioning, and sterile.
Provide pre-operative and post-operative patient care and education.
Maintain accurate patient records and surgical documentation.
Follow infection control, safety, and hospital policies and procedures.
Collaborate with physicians, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals.
Respond to emergency situations during surgical procedures.
Maintain a clean and organized surgical environment.
Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support).
Minimum 1–2 years of Operating Room or surgical nursing experience.
Cardiac Experience Required
Education
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program.
