STAFF PSYCHOLOGIST

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
St. John’s University is seeking a full-time psychologist to join the university Counseling Center at the Queens campus. The Center is seeking an individual with strong multicultural expertise in working with a diverse student body including work with international students and LGBTQ+. General duties include single-session therapy; brief individual, couple and group psychotherapy; after-hours on-call coverage; assessment and evaluation; treatment planning; crisis intervention and management; psychological consultation to families, faculty and staff; educational/preventative outreach to students, faculty and staff; involvement with clinical supervision; and perform other duties as assigned. Some evening and weekend hours will be required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology and licensed or licensed eligible in the State of New York is required. One to two years of post-graduate experience, preferably in a counseling center setting, is preferred. Past experience working with the college-aged population, including a strong knowledge of the challenges experienced by young adults, preferred. Knowledge or and demonstrated competence and sensitivity in working with a multi-cultural population. Strong diagnostic and therapeutic skills, particularly using short-term treatment interventions. Demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice, as well as personal and professional integrity. Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to collaborate with other departments and college administrators. Strong crisis assessment and crisis management skills. Excellent organizational, communication, and human relations skills.
