    ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF LEGAL STUDIES

     

    The Division of Criminal Justice, Legal Studies and Homeland Security in the Collins College of Professional Studies at St. John’s University is seeking applicants for a full-time tenure track position as Assistant Professor of Legal Studies, commencing September 1, 2022.  The successful applicant will teach in the undergraduate Legal Studies Program.

    THE DIVISION

    The Division of Criminal Justice, Legal Studies and Homeland Security has a dynamic practitioner/academic faculty and provides the following relevant programs: an American Bar Association approved paralegal program, Criminal Justice and Homeland Security majors and minors at the undergraduate level and two graduate programs, including a Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Homeland Security and Criminal Justice Leadership and an innovative Doctor of Professional Studies (DPS) in Homeland Security.  Faculty focus on key areas of skill development that include critical thinking, oral and written expression, team membership, leadership and employability readiness.     THE PROGRAM

    The successful applicant will teach in the undergraduate Legal Studies Program.  The Legal Studies Program teaches the foundational skills of effective reading of primary legal texts and of legal research, writing and analysis.  And, the Legal Studies Program teaches the knowledge of the law and of legal procedure that is necessary for entry-level work in law-related fields.  The Legal Studies Program offers four program options, a bachelor’s degree, an associate’s degree, a minor and a certificate.  Each of these options is an American Bar Association-approved paralegal education program.  For more information about the Legal Studies Program, see the Legal Studies bachelor’s degree webpage here: https://www.stjohns.edu/academics/programs/legal-studies-bachelor-science. 

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    This is a teaching-intensive position (9-12 credit hours per semester) with opportunities for research reductions. Research productivity is important, but secondary to teaching excellence and a strong commitment to student engagement. Division faculty are expected to participate in academic advisement, student mentoring, and other student engagement activities as required by the Chair and/or Dean.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Candidates must be licensed attorneys and must have several years of practical experience as licensed attorneys.  Candidates must have the potential to conduct scholarly legal research.  Such potential can be demonstrated through prior academic publications, prior federal clerkship or state court attorney experience or through prior complex litigation brief writing experience.  And, the candidate must have the self-awareness and humility necessary to successfully transition from their current practice environment to the very different environment of teaching law at the undergraduate level. 

     

    The ideal candidate will be able to support the following activities of the Program: (i) the teaching of legal research, writing and analysis, (ii) the offering of substantive legal courses in a variety of practice areas, (iii) and the advisement of students, including with respect to law school and internships.   The ideal candidate will also have prior teaching experience, will be familiar with technology-supported learning pedagogy, and will be willing to teach both in person and online.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    Provide strategic consulting in areas such as: 

    • Market and competitive analysis
    • Marketing technology optimization/migration
    • Testing strategy

    Program KPI/ROI optimizationLead the building, development, and delivery of strategic omni-channel marketing plans

    Provide experience-based thought leadership to impact customer lifecycle communications (e.g., Awareness, Acquire, Engage, Retain, Winback)

    Attend regular client status calls, quarterly or annual business reviews, and strategic planning sessions as needed (travel up to 25%)

    Partner with Sales and Account Management resources to scope projects based on recommendations

    Participate in relevant sales presentations or RFP responses

     

    SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • Develop sales material to aid the business development process
    • Attend industry conferences and events
    • Actively participate in company webinars and marketing solution development/ideation
    • Continuous improvement via explicit enablement path including RRD services and technology platforms
    • Provide guidance to RRD executive leadership regarding positioning and marketing the RRD brand
