    ENTERPRISE DATA ARCHITECT 

     

    The Enterprise Data Architect is responsible for the design and implementation of effective and efficient data infrastructure and data movement solutions in support of the University's strategic goals. The Enterprise Data Architect guides the organization’s data-related efforts, champions the use of technology in the data environment and provides a vision for the development of a robust scalable data model. Furthermore, the Enterprise Data Architect will:

     

    • Defining vision, strategy, and principles for data management in collaboration with senior executives to support the University's strategies and priorities
    • Defining standards for naming, describing, governing, managing, modeling, cleansing, enriching, transforming, moving, storing, searching, and delivering data within the enterprise;
    • End-to-end data architectural accountability for defining and refining enterprise architecture for data warehousing and business intelligence solutions;
    • Understanding how data is, or will be, used and implication on people, processes, products, and technology;
    • Define and develop a data migration or bridging strategy for existing systems that need to migrate to a next generation application software platform;
    • Define data standards/reference architectures for use by project teams in developing technical designs and work closely with business units to establish and validate data design requirements;
    • Propose and run/govern the proof of concepts for new technologies which could result in differentiating capabilities for the business;
    • Deliver well-defined data design documentation and data models that guide and inform project software, development teams;
    • Define performance and scalability requirements and validate based on performance and scalability testing;
    • Review Data Warehouse business cases and initiatives to identify, assess, and communicate feasibility, architecture requirements, costs and issues. In general, provide thought leadership to evolving Data Warehouse/business intelligence (BI) activities.

     

    REQUIREMENTS:

     

    The Enterprise Data Architect should have completed a bachelor’s degree program (Master’s degree preferred) or higher in a computer science, information science, engineering, or equivalent field. Non-bachelor’s degrees are accepted with equivalent years of experience and relevant professional certifications.

    The Enterprise Data Architect should have at least eight years of relevant experience with:

    • Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture principles, methods, and tools; understanding of data management;
    • Knowledge of master data management and data governance;
    • Ability to understand how the data relates to the current operations and the effects that any future process changes will have on the use of data in the organization;
    • Ability to translate business needs into architecture requirements;
    • Ability to maximize the data resources by reducing redundancy, enabling accessibility within security boundaries, fostering corporate understanding of the meaning of the data (metadata management);
    • Understand the relationships across the business process and data flows;
    • Collaborate with business stakeholders and data stewards to assess current pain points and areas for improvement;
    • Must be able to understand and communicate the data requirements of any future infrastructure needs;
    • Experience in data integration and data conversions;
    • Excellent skills in data management, data modeling, data services, reporting, and analytics as well as the tools used to support these areas;
    • In-depth knowledge of and proven cloud experience with AWS data management and business intelligence stack;
    • Experience in a self-service Business Intelligence environment a plus.

    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail is critical;
    • Exercise good judgment, logic and troubleshooting skills to anticipate and solve problems independently;
    • Proven experience in handling multiple priorities simultaneously;
    • Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends, when necessary.
