    Job description :

    The Programs in Special Education in the Department of Education Specialties at St. John’s University is seeking applications for an Adjunct Assistant faculty position in Special Education. Responsibilities include teaching 2-3 graduate level courses in Special Education at our Queens campus ( classes are typically on Mon and/or Tue 5 pm and 7.10 pm) ( max 5 courses per calendar year).

    The position requires the candidate to actively participate in student advisement and support related to the course work and participate in Departmental interdisciplinary activities and initiatives. Engagement in academic service learning and field-supervision of graduate students at practicum sites across the NYC boroughs and Long Island may be required.

    Qualifications :

    The position requires an earned Doctorate in Special Education or related field or ABD with a minimum 5 years of full-time teaching experience in Special Education for diverse learners and those with disabilities in schools and or community/clinical settings. Prior graduate level teaching experience in higher education and supervision of graduate students in diverse field placements is preferred.

    Experience in building effective school partnerships/teaching residencies in high needs, urban special education settings with students and families from a range of linguistic and cultural backgrounds is valued.

    A strong commitment to anti-racism pedagogy and culturally responsive teaching practices is essential.

    Salary:

    The initial rank depends on the highest degree of the candidate and the availability of the documented experience. The hire-on rate is $950 per credit for candidates without Ph.D. and $1050 per credit for candidates with a Ph.D.

    Skill in manipulating controls for starting, stopping, backing, and driving the vehicle in all types of traffic and road conditions.   Knowledge of the height, width, length, and weight of the vehicle in order to judge overhead and side clearances, the turning radius, braking distance, and the safest distance to be maintained from other vehicles.   Skill to read and understand a road map, and to determine the shortest and safest route for both short and long runs.  Knowledge of defensive driving techniques, including skill to recognize developing hazardous road and traffic conditions and the judgment to select alternate routes to avoid potential problems.   Knowledge and skill to adjust driving methods to the practices of the surrounding traffic in order to avoid accidents and to transport cargo and passengers safely.   Knowledge of State and local safety rules and regulations, and the rules of other jurisdictions for operating vehicles.   Knowledge and skill to load cargo properly onto the vehicle, using appropriate tie-downs such as chains, binders, or straps for transit on public roads at highway speeds or under similar driving circumstances.   Knowledge of the operator's manual for their assigned vehicle and skill to apply such knowledge to particular driving situations.   Ability to recognize developing maintenance problems when conducting an operator's inspection of their assigned vehicles, and to report technical problems to the supervisor. Ability to move or lift up to 75 pounds. Must have excellent organizational skills and good mechanical skills.
