    POSITION: FORENSIC PATHOLOGIST

    LOCATION: WAUKEGAN, IL

    SALARY: $190,000 - $225,000

    JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for performing autopsies to determine the cause of death and performs related work as required.

      

    Becoming a Forensic Pathologist would allow you to be involved with the County Coroner's Office within local government, ranging from performing external examinations of bodies, drawing toxicology samples, and preparing comprehensive reports on post-mortem examinations in a timely manner and meeting with police and state’s attorney’s office to discuss autopsy findings to determining cause of death.  Your day will consist of serving as an expert witness in a court of law to testify in a variety of civil and criminal cases, and supervising deputies and autopsy technicians during autopsy.  You will have endless opportunities to impact and make a difference within Lake County. Being able to build working relationships with employees, 30 countywide departments and the public, is sure to keep you interested and continuously learning.

     

    In order to be successful in this role you must be able to obtain a license to practice medicine in the State of Illinois and become board certified as a forensic pathologist. Individuals should have extensive knowledge of forensic pathology, possess the ability to effectively problem solve and have the ability to work both individually and in a team atmosphere. You also must be able to work in a variety of conditions and environments and be able to lift, carry, push, and pull at least 100 pounds, including a human body.
