    ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF CAREER DEVELOPMENT

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    St. John’s University School of Law is seeking a candidate for the position of Assistant Director of Career Development. The Career Development Office at St. John’s provides proactive, student-centered placement services to J.D. and LL.M. students and alumni. Professional staff members are assigned a mix of 1Ls, 2Ls, 3Ls, and recent graduates.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Help assigned students discover their areas of interest and obtain summer and permanent employment positions that meet students’ goals. In recognition of the interrelationship between academic advising, the curriculum, externships, and clinics, members of the Career Development Office liaise with faculty, alumni, and administrators on a regular basis.
    • Meet with students on a regular basis, communicating opportunities and advice in-person, by phone, and by e-mail. Assist students with job search strategies, application documents, interview skills and their professional development. Develop programs, services, and materials that will assist students and alumni in developing effective job search strategies.
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Superior interpersonal, writing, administrative, and computer skills; knowledge of the legal profession.
    • A Juris Doctor degree is preferred but not required.
    • A background in criminal law, particularly prosecution, is also preferred, as is career counseling or legal recruiting experience.
    • 3 or more years’ professional experience required.

  • Qualifications
    • Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance with 3-5 years of relevant work experience OR demonstrated ability to meet the job requirements through a comparable number of years of applicable work experience.
    • Knowledge of GAAP and proficient with fundamental accounting concepts and procedures
    • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Excel required to improve and streamline internal processing and reporting
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Excellent problem solving, communication, interpersonal, analytical, and time management skills required
    • Understanding of multi-entity accounting and intra/in-tercompany eliminations
    • Customer service oriented with excellent follow up skills
    • Strong knowledge and understanding of journal processing, monthly/annual closing activities, allocations, etc)
    • Ability to perform account reconciliations of a complex nature
    • Detail oriented
    • Ability to work well with others in a team environment
    • Good problem solving and process improvement skills
    • SAP system experience preferred
