  • Responsibilities

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    The Safety Professional serves as a primary team leader on safety and safety professional for projects, and develops and implements the project’s project delivery system in collaboration with other Boldt team members, trade contractors, customer representatives and other key project stakeholders, under the guidance and mentorship of his or her direct Boldt supervisor and corporate safety leadership.

    TYPICAL DUTIES:

    Project Specific Duties

    In conjunction with Production Team, Trade Partners and Superintendents:

    • Obtain OSHA permits for assigned projects
    • Prepare all project-specific safety plans
    • Establish Cal-OSHA Consultation
    • Conduct Preconstruction Safety Meetings with all trade contractors prior to mobilization on site
    • Ensure safety plans, including JHAs, are developed and implemented on the project by trade contractors prior to work start
    • Promote and ensure morning stretch and flex
    • Promote and ensure daily Pre-task planning (“PTP”) is performed and is effective
    • Perform daily safety audits
    • Promote, collect and analyze Continuous Safety Improvement (CSI) cards
    • Oversee implementation of Predictive Solutions Program
    • Conduct Weekly Safety Meetings
    • Conduct rescue / emergency response drills periodically
    • Audit specific documentation requirements at job site
    • Produce required site paperwork
    • Ensure compliance with all required OSHA postings
    • Develop and update Emergency Plan and Fire Prevention Plan
    • Permit Postings
    • OSHA log postings
    • Ensure IIPP currency
    • Collect and preserve tailgate toolbox talk records
    • Hazard Communication and SDS inventory
    • Follow up on all recommendations and close-out actions
    • Coordinate job site visits by outside consultants or insurance representatives; ensure close out of all requirements cited
    • Provide tailgate toolbox talk meeting information based on schedules, critical path items and OSHA citations
    • Perform accident/incident and near miss investigations, Root Cause Analyses, and recommend corrective and preventive actions that conform with company policies

     

    Worker’s Compensation Related Duties:

    • Maintain Project OSHA 300 Log and summary of accidents; Prepare annual summary for posting at job site
    • Ensure injured worker paperwork is properly generated and follow up is conducted with Integrated Project Incident Program
    • Prepare job descriptions for all work classes (Assisted by Worker’s Comp carrier and broker)
    • Meet with designated clinics to:
    • Inspect quality of facilities and services
    • Identify a point of contact for assistance and with whom to register complaints
    • Validate treatment options and prescription services
    • Provide information on light duty return to work program
    • Provide job descriptions of employees to assist with light duty assignments as applicable
    • Investigate all worker’s comp accidents and provide complete reports to Herrero Builders and Boldt Safety Directors
    • Follow up on all claims to ensure proper treatment and return of injured workers to productive work

     

    Corporate Safety Duties:

    • Prepare weekly safety reports in format approved by safety directors
    • Ensure timely submission of monthly KPIs to safety directors
    • Provide prompt notifications and reports per the Incident Reporting Guidelines.
    • Provide other communications as requested

     

    Training Requirements:

    Aid in the development of safety programs and initiatives to assure that the following processes and training is provided to personnel:

    • 10-Hour and 30-Hour OSHA Courses
    • First Aid & CPR
    • Accident and incident investigations
    • Workers Compensation Claims reporting/claims handling
    • Medical evaluation and controls
    • Competent Person Fall Protection Certification
    • Competent Person Trenching & Excavations Certification
    • Competent Person Confined Spaces Certification
    • Traffic Control & Flagging
    • Respirator competency including fit testing training
    • Certificate in Safety
    • Hoisting and Rigging Awareness and Qualified Person training
    • Other training programs as necessary

    Assume additional responsibilities as directed.

    Required Skills

    Advanced knowledge and ability to oversee compliance with all federal, state, local and company safety regulations required.  Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards and their impact on project activities vital.  Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures essential.  Good interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.)and communication skills also required. Must be able to apply collaborative, innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee and team performance.

    Required Experience

    EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:  FOUR YEAR OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY/HEALTH DEGREE PLUS MINIMUM THREE YEARS CONSTRUCTION/INDUSTRIAL SAFETY EXPERIENCE OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATIONS TRAINING AND RELATED EXPERIENCE.
