  • Responsibilities

    Working with our western operations senior management team, the position will help expand existing client relationships and develop new relationships with architects, owners/authorities (such as healthcare providers, university facility engineers and airports authorities), other general contractors and trade partners. In doing so, the business development manager will help build a stable pipeline of project opportunities for consideration by the company. 

     Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Develop and nurture deep customer relationships for shaping project pursuits 
    • Lead and manage entire sales process 
    • Lead and shape the theme and direction for proposals and presentations based on the customer relationship and acquired client intellect. Help identify key differentiators and competitor intellect to assist with the pursuit. May participate in project pursuit interviews  
    • Assist in the development and implementation of the western operations business plans including gathering information as market size and condition, growth potential, trends, market share, and entry strategies 
    • Expand Boldt’s network of contacts by engaging directly, and through presentations, events and trade conferences. Identify leads and manage follow-up either directly or through the Boldt leadership and operations team 
    • Conduct research to identify and target potential clients, and help maintain Boldt’s client database 
    • Represent the company at owner, industry and community events and conferences.  Lead/coordinate Boldt’s participation, as necessary 
    • Prepare and execute business development action plans. Monitor sales activities and adjust to market changes, as necessary 
    • Partner with divisional and national marketing and communications staff to build demand and differentiation for Boldt with events, mailings, presentations, collateral materials, advertising, social media and online campaigns 
    • Track the business development budget; controlling expenditures to conform to the plan; recommending or approving expenditures; continuously evaluating the value Boldt receives for investments in industry, community or other events, conferences, and expenses  
    • Lead, motivate and resource other Boldt staff as ambassadors of the company and its values 
    • Mentor staff and train other staff, as necessary

     

    Required Skills Required Experience

    • A minimum of 8 years’ successful business development experience particularly in construction, architecture or engineering, or selling to the healthcare, higher education, commercial or industrial markets  
    • A BS or MS in Business, Marketing, Architecture, Construction Management or other highly relevant field  
    • Active memberships in relevant professional organizations and participation in industry and community organizations and events is highly desirable
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to lead/create highly professional proposals and presentations that evidence clear, compelling thinking
    • "People person” who is confident and has a positive personality 
    • Strong organizational and time management skills 
    • Ability to work both independently, with minimal supervision, and in a team environment 
    • High level of professionalism, empathy, diplomacy and confidentiality 
    • Self-starter who can take initiative, make sound decisions and balance priorities
