    _Sanford Burnham Prebys is a preeminent, independent biomedical research institute dedicated to understanding human biology and disease, and advancing scientific discoveries to profoundly impact human health. _ 

    A full-time LAB ASSISTANT II position is available in the Emerling Laboratory. The Lab Assistant will perform routine scientific tasks which may include the preparation of laboratory supplies and equipment, and other related duties as assigned under supervision of the PI or other lab staff.  This position may be full-time or part-time.  

    The Dr. Emerling's Laboratory research is focused on understanding key signaling and metabolic pathways involved in the regulation of cellular function under pathological conditions such as cancer. The research program centers around dissecting the roles of the family of non-canonical phosphatidylinositol kinases, called the phosphatidylinositol-5-phosphate 4-kinases (PI5P4Ks), in cancer metabolism using a multi-disciplinary approach integrating human, mouse, and worm models. Currently, a major research project in the Emerling Lab is determining the role of the PI5P4Ks in p53 mutant cancers, especially the triple-negative breast cancer subgroup where targeted therapies have not been effective.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Assists teams and core staff with all aspects of laboratory projects and experiments using standard laboratory techniques under supervision
    • Assist with autoclaving, media/buffer preparations, stocking and maintenance of inventory/supplies, and other related duties and tasks, as required
    • Assists with molecular analysis of mouse and human cells/tissues.
    • Performs tasks related to cell culture studies, which include in vitro drug administration and RNA interference experiments
    • Assists with DNA, RNA and protein analysis using current molecular biology and biochemistry techniques

    Required Skills Required Experience

    • High School diploma or equivalent required and two years’ experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained
    • Previous research laboratory experience is preferred
    • Bachelor's degree in a biological field of study or college level sciences classes is a plus
    • Any experience working with laboratory mice including standard procedures and handling mice is preferred
