    PART-TIME LIBRARY ASSISTANT

    UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES 

     

     

     

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • Provide service to students, faculty, staff, administrators and others as needed relating to library circulation and reserve functions.
    • Provide accurate and timely information and service from the 3rd floor Service Desk and/or via online or telephone, regarding circulation, interlibrary loan, hold shelf, reserves, reference, media, etc.
    • Troubleshoot and maintain library photocopiers.
    • Provide access to group study rooms for standing reservations and the scheduling of reservations.
    • Participate in library-related projects as needed.
    • Supervision of student-workers when needed. This includes training, assigning tasks, overseeing and reinforcing library policies and procedures.
    • Maintain ongoing dialogue with department supervisor addressing issues or concerns in a timely manner.
    • Follow department "open" and "close" procedures.
    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule as needed.
    • Other duties as needed.

     

     

    SKILLS:

     

    • Develop a proficiency in all lLS/Koha functions, i.e. charging and discharging items, posting fines and fees, loading patron records, processing Library Alumni/Access Includes the ability to diagnose and resolve patron and item record issues in an efficient and timely manner in line with library policies.
    • Excellent computer skills including a proficiency in Microsoft suite of products, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
    • Excellent communication and customer service 
    • Ability to work in groups as well as independently. 
    • Exhibit flexibility when challenged by changing workflow priorities.
    • Willingness to learn skills and procedures pertaining to circulation, print and eReserves through formal and on-the-job-training.
    • Ability to operate office equipment e. computer, copier, scanner, fax, and phone.
    • Ability to lift and move boxes when necessary.
    • Demonstrate reliable and predictable punctuality and attendance, as required for the position.

     

     

    3 POSITIONS ARE AVAILABLE:

    1- weekday position is M-Th 6pm-10pm.

    2-positions both on Sat 10am-6pm and Sun 12pm-10pm.

     

    EXPERIENCE :

    • Some library experience preferred.

    • HS diploma; some college.

  • Qualifications

    Ability to read and follow job specifications to determine press set-up materials needed to run the job successfully.  Skill to follow instructions to operate equipment safely and produce the desired product. 

    Ability to use micrometer to mount and align the printing plate correctly. 

    Ability to make adjustments to feeder and feed board (e.g., ability to adjust suctions and blast, front and side guides and the timing of the head stops). 

    Skill in performing routine operational maintenance and minor repairs to equipment under guidance of senior level Press Operators.

    Ability to read and interpret documents to include job tickets, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

    Must regularly and frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds.

    Must be able to work 12 hour shifts, including assigned weekends and overtime as scheduled.  

    Hours are 7:00 pm - 7:00 am
