    WE ARE SEEKING A LINUX PRODUCT ENGINEER, GOVERNMENT SERVICES TO JOIN US AT RACKSPACE! THIS POSITION IS OPEN TO REMOTE, RESTON, VA OR SAN ANTONIO, TX!  

    POSITION SUMMARY 

    Develop strong partnerships with internal teams with the ability to drive “Security by Design” principles at relevant levels of infrastructure and product lifecycle management. Responsible for bringing technical leadership, standards, and best practice knowledge to the discipline of OS baseline engineering and automation and for the design, implementation, and support of major Linux solutions in a multi-platform environment. Additional responsibilities include conducting studies of system usage, making recommendations for improvements to the usability of automated tools, and identifying opportunities for increased adoption of orchestration technologies. Proposes and implements system enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Delivers baseline configurations, product solutions, working prototypes, production-ready systems, and provides guidance for complex solutions that enables Rackspace Government Solutions Sales, Support, Security and Compliance teams to maximize speed to market deliveries and align with customer expectations.
    • Assists in defining our end to end product offerings including definition, design, build, deployment and high-level support.
    • Internal and external facing SME across all government cloud platforms, providing external evangelism as well as internal training and enablement. Maintains close integration with our cloud partners.
    • Ensures major product Linux designs are maintainable, flexible and cost-effective solutions.
    • Solves complex problems and takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.
    • Understands customer configurations and analyze strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
    • Communicates the value of IT Risk, Compliance, and Information Security within the organization.
    • Continuously validates solutions against additional mandates, as developed, to ensure full compliance.
    • Promotes sharing of expertise through consulting, presentation, and documentation. Assists in training other Sales, Support, Security, and Compliance staff where necessary.
    • Coordinates cross-functionally to ensure a holistic approach to security and compliance.
    • Supports business partners where necessary in dealing with current and prospective clients.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS 

    • Advanced knowledge of servers/computer hardware and software.
    • Expert working knowledge of Linux OS.
    • Ability to influence others both internally and in the external technical community.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
    • Solid Linux OS expertise on VMware and AWS in particular (Azure and GCP a plus).
    • Knowledge of Information Assurance (IA) principles and tenets (confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, non-repudiation, etc.).
    • Knowledge of cloud architecture concepts including distributed system methodology, topology, and components.
    • Advanced knowledge of system administration concepts for Unix/Linux operating systems.
    • Extensive experience hardening Operating Systems and applying compliance benchmarks such as CIS and DISA STIGs.
    • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet, SaltStack, Satellite, etc.
    • Knowledge of security policies, standards and practices, such as FIPS, FISMA, FedRAMP and NIST SP 800-53.
    • Ability to work independently on tasks and take ownership of projects.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Associate’s Degree or equivalent education and 3 - 6 years work experience in Product Development, Product Engineering or Technology required.  (Bachelor’s degree in technology or business preferred)
    • Minimum of 2 years of practical information security experience in developing and maintaining secure OS baselines for large enterprises is preferred. Public Cloud, Security+, Network+, CISSP, CCSP Professional certifications preferred. Prior experience engineering solutions for the federal government, particularly DoD is preferred.

     

    *Must be able to pass a Public Trust background check at hire. Must be a U.S. Citizen. May require further DOD security clearance.
