    JOB SUMMARY:

    Working within a team, the Associate Consultant will be responsible for providing exceptional client service in the public municipal utilities industry through various multi-discipline projects, such a financial planning, cost allocation studies, service pricing, debt issuance support and other miscellaneous financial-related projects.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develop Excel-based financial models to support analysis of a variety of financial-related projects. Examples of these projects include projecting utility revenues and expenditures to identify future revenue needs, ensuring operating costs and capital expenditures are adequately funded with system revenues and planned financings, and cost allocation and service pricing in support of utility operations.
    • Under guidance of project managers, work independently on multiple projects to help meet milestones and deliverables.
    • Utilize public speaking and technical writing skills to produce, edit and present reports, proposals, and presentations in a clear and succinct manner.
    • Support senior staff in business development and marketing activities.
    • Communicate with clients to gather data and other relevant project information.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor's degree (finance, accounting, economics, mathematics, or other related fields).
    • Financially literate with a strong understanding of finance and accounting concepts and terminology.
    • Advanced proficiency and experience with MS Excel.
    • Strong proficiency with MS Word and PowerPoint.
    • Critical thinking skills – ability to formulate multiple solutions to problems and develop solutions based on quantitative analysis.
    • Ability to work under multiple project managers with competing deadlines and deliverables.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Willing and able to travel overnight as needed.

    PREFERENCES:

    • Master's degree (MBA, MS, MPA, or similar).
    • Finance and/or accounting designation(s), or substantial progress toward these designations, such as CPA, CMA, CFGM, and/or CFA.
    • 2+ years of financial experience with local governments or local government entities in the areas of accounting, budgeting, audit/assurance, debt issuance, or other general financial management activities.
    • Professional services experience (consulting, public accounting, etc.) a plus.  Candidates with Big 4 public accounting experience are encouraged to apply.
