    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Associate Consultant is a problem solver who will support a project team to provide solutions to Raftelis clients in the municipal utilities industry (water, wastewater, and stormwater). These projects will include examining historical revenue and cost trends, developing financial forecasts, calculating appropriate user rates and fees, supporting investment and debt transactions, and other miscellaneous projects. The associate consultant will be able to follow existing processes as well as develop innovative solutions where applicable.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Prepare a variety of technical analyses to support multiple financial and management consulting projects under the direction of team members, including: financial forecasting, customer behavior analysis, expenditure and budget performance review, cost allocations, data mining and aggregation, data visualization, etc.
    • Develop Excel-based financial models to support a variety of financial and management studies. This includes projecting utility revenues and expenses, forecasting customer demand, performing cost allocation and rate/fee design to support our client's operations.
    • Under guidance of project managers, work independently and have the ability to switch between projects quickly to meet milestones and deliverables
    • Utilize public speaking and technical writing skills to produce, edit and present reports, proposals, and presentations in a clear and succinct manner
    • Support senior staff in business development and marketing activities
    • Communicate with clients to gather data and other relevant project information

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills
    • Bachelor's degree (mathematics, finance, accounting, engineering, economics, or other related fields)
    • Advanced proficiency and experience with MS Excel including advanced user functions
    • Strong proficiency with MS Word and PowerPoint
    • Experience analyzing large data sets, including using software like PowerBI and Tableau
    • Critical thinking skills – ability to formulate multiple solutions to problems, test hypothesis and develop solutions based on analysis
    • Ability to work under multiple project managers with competing deadlines and deliverables
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Willing and able to travel overnight as needed

    PREFERENCES:

    • Master's degree (MBA, CPA, or similar)
    • Working with and/or developing database queries, using MS Access, SQL server and/or relational databases
    • Modeling proficiency and experience writing Visual Basic macros in Excel
    • Experience and/or interest in municipal government, the utility industry or environmental science
