Rainy Day Recruiter has a premier client in Corpus Christi that needs a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner on a part-time basis, rotating weekends. 

JOB SUMMARY

A Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) is a registered professional nurse with clinical expertise in neonatal nursing who has received formal education in the medical case management of acutely ill, chronically ill, and convalescing infants and their families.  The NNP is empowered to make independent choices regarding medical diagnosis and medical treatment, by use of standardized procedures, without the direct supervision of a physician.  The NNP also provides healthcare maintenance to infants through the use of health promotion and disease prevention strategies.

 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide immediate supportive care for high –risk infants in the delivery room or operating room by providing resuscitation when necessary.
• Assume the medical management role in the transport of high-risk infants
• Demonstrate proficiency in the systematic assessment of neonates and their families:
• Obtaining, documenting, and interpreting a thorough medical/health history which includes physical, environmental, age-specific developmental, psychological, and social assessments.
• Performing and documenting physical examination and/or gestational age assessment.
• Identifying and following –up on problems of high risk infants and demonstrate skill in the diagnosis and intervention of the same.
• Demonstrating appropriate selection of diagnostic work-ups in accordance with approved standardized procedures.
• Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of infant anatomy, physiology, and pathology by developing and documenting a plan of care, a problem list and differential diagnoses for each patient
• Demonstrate ability to make prudent, independent judgements and accept responsibility of the same as it relates to case management.
• Demonstrate expertise in the performance of technical procedures related to neonatal intensive care including:
• Umbilical vessel catheterization (venous and arterial)
• Endotracheal intubation,
• Chest thoracotomy with tube placement and/or needle aspiration,
• Suprapubic bladder aspiration,
•  Lumbar puncture,
• Suture placement and removal,
• Percutaneously inserted central catheter placement,
• Percutaneous arterial catheter placement, and Neonatal resuscitation.
•  Demonstrate ability to appropriately interpret the findings on infant radiographs as related to case management.
• Demonstrate ability to provide on-going case management for a specified group of infant
• Anticipate infant discharge and provide discharge plans and appropriate referrals as indicated.
• Enhances the quality of advanced nursing practice case management through collaboration and /or consultation with members of the healthcare team
• QUALIFICATIONS
• Must have an Advanced Practice Professional degree from an approved college of Nursing.
• Must be board certified and have Texas NNP License.
• Must have one year of direct NNP experience.
•  Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge in area assigned, and competency in assessment techniques, diagnosis and treatment processes that apply to the assigned medical specialty area.
