POSITION PURPOSE

Under technical supervision performs routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.

General responsibilties include professional application of laboratory principles, theories, and techniques.  Competency in performance of complex testing, accurate reporting skills.  Recognize conditions that affect test results, their accuracy and reliability.  Recognize and correct problems and errors.  Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies.  Participate in continuing education.  Work under technical supervision.  Maintains accurate quality control and patient test records.

Education:

Associate degree from a Medical Laboratory Technician program from an accredited institution, including courses in chemistry and biology; or associate degree of at least 60 semester hours from an accredited institution, including chemistry and biology, plus 12-month structured curriculum in medical laboratory techniques (which may have been part of collegiate course); or associate degree or equivalent from an accredited institution, including courses in chemistry and biology plus graduation from a military medical laboratory training program of not less than 12 months duration.

Experience: 

Experience up to 3 months preferred, but not required.

Licenses/Certificates:

Registration as a Medical Laboratory Technologist, MLT (ASCP), MLT (AMT), HEW, or CLS (NCA) or equivalent required. Registry required within 12 months of completion of school/training or equivalent education documentation per CLIA standards IND123
