    Job Description

    Through the entrepreneurial education program for area students, the Intern will:

    • Assist in guiding youth and executing the project’s goals: 1) Increased access to fruits & vegetables in the community (2) Increased healthy foods in food deserts (3) Increased fruit & vegetable consumption (4) Increased food security (5) Increased awareness of health benefits.
    • Serve as a mentor to engage, educate, and implement all steps of a business and marketing plan to create a sustainable market.
    • Work to support the documentation and reporting outlined in the Healthier Perth Amboy Blueprint for Action Plan. They will be working on this simultaneously throughout the completion of on-site hours.
    • Detail areas in need of improvement, barriers to access, and areas of potential future growth. They will also develop strategies on how to eliminate barriers. The information they will provide us will greatly benefit the Consortium’s efforts of creating a Culture of Health.

    Additional learning opportunities may include:

    1. Working collaboratively with diverse communities and constituencies, while demonstrating high levels of personal and professional ethics and cultural competency.

    2. Documenting progress of a project.

    3. Planning and performing community health needs assessments.

    4. Planning effective community health interventions, drawing upon established theories and empirical evidence.

    5. Implementing community health interventions.

    6. Evaluating community health interventions, utilizing appropriate research design and methodology.

    7. Identifying strategies for developing partnerships, community organizing, and coalition building to create and sustain public health interventions.

    8. Integrating ethical considerations and social justice values in community health education practice

    9. Utilizing current research findings in community health education practice.

    10. Using a variety of effective educational strategies, methods, and techniques to develop and deliver health messages to diverse audiences.

    11. Engaging in advocacy efforts to improve community health education policies and programs.

    12. Identifying opportunities for professional development, participation, and learning in community health education.

    13. Identifying valid, reliable, and up-to-date resources for specific topical areas in public health.
