POSITION SUMMARY

The DE Underwriter will be responsible for managing and monitoring the daily workflow of files and be an expert on agency loan guidelines and internal underwriting procedures, making sound loan decisions regarding the creditworthiness of borrowers while working in a fast-paced and high-volume environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Complete a thorough analysis of the loan file to determine credit worthiness, income collateral value, and purchase contracts. This includes full condominium reviews, complex tax returns and other legal documentation as applicable.
• Evaluate geographic area, loan type, ownership and occupancy of the residence and assure proper adjustments are made to loan terms, rate, or amount when applicable.
• Underwrite to current Appendix Q/FNMA/FHLM and Investor Overlays
• Assist in maintaining compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations and ordinances by adhering to all policies &  procedures.
• Determine that valid liens in the proper recording position can be obtained by analyzing title examination and public record reports.  Ensure that corrective action is taken when factors that weaken Rate Rabbit’s collateral position are identified.
• Interpret policies and guidelines for loan processors and other employees requiring guidance.  Communicate clearly with processors when documentation is inaccurate and provide feedback to managers on performance.
• Participate in the development of policy changes, program implementation and procedural improvements.
• Resolve complex borrower issues within delegate limits.
• Respond to post closing review and audits in a timely fashion.
• Actively look for exceptions within delated authority.  Present exceptions and recommendations to management.

 REQUIREMENTS

• Current CHUM number
• Minimum 5 years of experience underwriting conventional loans
• DE required
• SAR/LAPP highly desired
• Bachelor's degree in a Business-related field preferred or equivalent mortgage banking experience
• Proficiency in Desktop Underwriter, Loan Prospector, and Ellie Mae Encompass
• Current knowledge of RESPA and MDIA regulations
• Knowledgeable in underwriting loans at a national level and in all markets
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Work independently and be self-motivated with exceptional organizational and time management skills
• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
