Staff works independently in the homes of families receiving services from the child welfare system. Positions all require strong interpersonal skills and a human services background; experience working with children and youth is a plus.

    Raystown Developmental Services (RDS) has been serving the counties of Huntingdon, Mifflin, and Juniata since 1983.

    RDS provides a vast array of services to Adults with intellectual disabilities. Our Residential Program serves individuals with intellectual disabilities who reside in group homes. Staff assist individuals to maximize choice, daily living skills and community integration. RDS also provides day program services at our Adult Training Facility where individuals focus on skill building and community integration. In addition, RDS facilitates Home & Community based services to help assist individuals with intellectual disabilities to help increase their independence and personal skills in their home and to access their community.

    SUMMARY

    A person in this position functions as a Caseworker in the Independent Living (IL) Program. This position works with youth in Huntingdon County who qualify for IL Services based on referral from the funding agency.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Initiate and maintain contact with families who are to receive services by making contact within 24 hours of referral and attempting to contact them as needed to assist in completing goal plans.

    2. Work with youths to assist in developing Independent Living Goal plans within one month after the referral.

    3. Perform assessment of youths’ life skills using agency/program-approved tool.

    4. Prepare and complete required documentation, including case notes, in compliance with regulations, company standards and the policy and procedure manual.

    5. Maintain good working relationships with private and public agencies. Provide updates to Children & Youth Caseworker if youth has an open Children & Youth case.

    6. Transport individuals as necessary to observe and consult in various areas of the youths’ lives. Follow established vehicle maintenance policy at all times.

    7. Supervise activities of Independent Living Assistant.

    8. Effectively communicate with supervisors/managers, individuals, family members, and other service providers.

    9. Attend work as scheduled. Attend meetings/trainings as required. Complete on-line trainings as assigned.

    10. Perform related work as required.

    EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

    Bachelor's Degree in related field or a Bachelor's Degree in a unrelated field with minimum 12 credits in a Human Service related course; i.e. psychology, sociology, counseling, etc.

    One year related experience/training in working with children and families.

    Valid Driver’s License.

    TRAVEL

    This position requires an extensive amount of travel throughout northeast and/or central Pennsylvania, primarily in Huntingdon and Mifflin County.

    Position requires staff to drive and transport clients in both agency and personal vehicles.

    Properly load and unload individuals to/from vehicles.

    Follow vehicle safety guidelines, as defined by state regulation and company policy, at all times.
