ASSOCIATE MANAGING EDITOR JOB DESCRIPTION
The Associate Managing Editor reports to the Associate Director, Editorial, and manages the daily workflow of 1-2 brands within the Editorial department. They work as part of an editorial team; manage and train editors; manage timelines and expectations; participate as a member of the larger brand team; oversee supplemental staffing, when necessary; and ensure that editing and fact checking within their brands is consistent and accurate.
The right candidate will have substantive healthcare marketing experience and fluency with AMA style, the ability to multitask, work under deadlines, and manage high volume workflow. Launch and label update experience is a plus, but not necessary. He or she will feel comfortable working on print and digital copy and be able to work with various client/brand style guides.
He or she should feel comfortable working in a deadline-oriented environment, be flexible with schedule, and able to problem solve without jeopardizing accuracy.
EDUCATION AND SKILLS:
Copy edit, fact-check, and proofread a variety of promotional for healthcare professionals and consumers (both print and digital)
Thorough knowledge of AMA style and comfortable fact checking clinical information
Process-oriented and understanding of brand style
Problem-solving abilities
Ability to collaborate and communicate well with a team
Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Ability to handle multiple projects and client editorial styles simultaneously
Maintains professional and positive qualities within the organization
Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) from an accredited college or university
Qualifications
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Manages the triage of daily work for a couple brands; manages staff (both full-time and freelance) to keep workload moving and work on deadline
· Attends brand status, kick-offs, and any other team meetings requiring editorial perspective/input for the brand
· Copy edits, proofreads, and fact checks with a low error rate
· Lead editor on at least 2 brands, and backup on other brands; responsible for delegating work as needed or covering for the Associate Director, Editorial
· Quickly comprehends technical/scientific articles. Ensures data is represented accurately and is adequately referenced and annotated through the fact checking process
· Works closely with team members to ensure that print and digital materials are of the highest quality in terms of accuracy, utility, clarity, readability, and appeal
· Responsible for creating and/or managing the updating of style/claim sheets for brands and communicating with team
· Demonstrates significant knowledge of agency procedures, issues faced, and contributes to problem resolution
· Raises red flag when agency is jeopardizing quality for speed
· Works with Project Management to approve estimates and review timelines; works within budgeted hours; sends alerts before hours are exceeded
· Role models professional and positive qualities within the organization and for junior editors
