    POSITION OVERVIEW:

This position is directly under the supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor and Lab Manager in the Molecular Division. We are seeking a Data Analyst with a creative and analytical mind to join the GENETWORx Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory. The GENETWORx Laboratory is a state-of-the-art High Complexity Testing Lab focused on COVID-19, as well as Non-COVID19 personalized health testing. The individual will apply computational methods to the cutting-edge data being generated at GENETWORx for implementation of the Orchard/Sequoia Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), Next-Generation Sequencing, Advanced Pharmacogenetics, Wound and UTI infection testing, and data analysis, providing guidance and a highly stimulating intellectual environment for analytical methods development.

    The candidate should have a background in human biology with a working knowledge of computer science and statistics courses, and you should be able to apply sophisticated algorithms to biological data. Your implementation of processing and visualization algorithms will allow operations and clinical scientific staff to interact with and interpret the data for therapeutic outcomes. A key focus is the profiling of patient samples, with the goal of improving precision medicine and healthcare delivery.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Interpret data and analyze results using statistical techniques.
    • Develop and implement data analyses, data collection systems, and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.
    • Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintaining databases.
    • Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques, and provide ongoing reports.

    • Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases / data systems.
    • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.
    • Filter and "clean" data by reviewing computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems.
    • Work with management to prioritize business and information needs.
    • Locate and define new process improvement opportunities.
    • Support activities, functions, or duties, as defined by the Laboratory Management Team.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Baccalaureate degree in Business, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, or in another field with demonstrable coursework in these areas.
    • Knowledge of PCR based procedures and PCR contamination control required.
    • Experience: working experience as a data analyst or business data analyst.
    • Excellent ability to communicate with biologists
    • Familiarity with high-throughput sequencing data
    • Skills: Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (e.g. Business Objects), databases (e.g. SQL), programming (e.g. XML, JavaScript, or ETL frameworks).
    • Analytical, reasoning, statistical, mathematical and problem-solving skills
    • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (e.g. Excel, SPSS, SAS).
    • Knowledge of Python or R (preferably Python)

    COMPETENCIES:

    • Data analysis and data entry
    • Knowledge of clinical laboratory quality and safety regulations
    • Experience operating PCR instrumentation, including maintenance, troubleshooting, and data review
    • Experience using and creating general documents using MS Office Suite and/or Google documents
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
    • Excellent written and oral communication

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: May work in a variety of laboratory environments at Biosafety Levels I or II. Working at a desk in an office or lab setting.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

    TRAVEL: Work related travel will be minimal.
