    Position Summary

    Under the general direction of the Community Services Coordinator , the Recreation Specialist coordinates the day-to-day operations of City recreation programs and activities. This position helps ensure quality recreational experiences for participants while promoting a positive image of Riverdale City within the community.

    The Recreation Specialist may also provide guidance and oversight to part-time staff and volunteers as needed.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

    • Coordinate and support City recreation programs and activities.
    • Assist with the planning, organization, and implementation of community recreation services.
    • Promote positive public relations and maintain a favorable image of Riverdale City.
    • Monitor, maintain, and control the use of recreation equipment and supplies.
    • Assist with the City#39;s annual Old Glory Days Celebration and other special events.
    • Collaborate effectively with City staff, volunteers, community partners, and participants.
    • Provide excellent customer service to residents and program participants.
    • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience

    • Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience performing recreation, community services, event coordination, or closely related duties; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Knowledge of:

    • Recreation program development and administration.
    • Rules and regulations associated with various sports and recreational activities.
    • Personal computers and common software applications, including:
      • Microsoft Word
      • Spreadsheets
      • General office software programs

    Ability to:

    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, volunteers, community organizations, participants, and the public.
    • Work effectively with individuals from a variety of age groups and backgrounds.
    • Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
    • Manage multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic environment.
    • Demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills.

    Special Qualifications

    • Valid driver#39;s license preferred.

    Work Environment

    This position works in both office and outdoor environments. Duties require a variety of physical activities, including:

    • Walking
    • Standing
    • Sitting
    • Reaching
    • Stooping
    • Light lifting

    Successful performance requires effective communication, visual observation, hearing, attention to detail, and sound judgment. The position also requires frequent local travel as part of normal job responsibilities.
