    National commercial health insurance company is seeking an Accounting Manager at their Los Angeles/San Fernando Valley offices that is looking to obtain accelerated learning and experience in a dynamic environment. You will work closely with and report to the VP of Finance and Accounting to oversee all aspects of accounting for the health insurance company. An effective professional in this position will have a solid knowledge of accounting processes and principles for health insurance companies. You must be a highly organized professional able to motivate a team and improve processes. The goal is to keep the accounting and financial processes of the company compliant with all regulatory standards and ensure accurate financial reporting and control. 

    [Hybrid-remote; 4 days on site]

    Responsibilities

    • Ensure proper general ledger accounting to ensure regulatory compliance
    • Design processes and work with the rest of the accounting team to meet statutory accounting filing requirements Implement Policies and procedures for the health insurance company
    • Liaise with the external statutory audit firm and complete the statutory audit
    • Manage the IBNR and other insurance related reserves and reinsurance matters, working closely with the risk management team
    • Complete medical loss ratio annual filing with CMS
    • Select and implement the statutory filing and reporting program replacement
    • Seek areas to improve efficiency by improving workflow, setting up automation or better use of the existing accounting system
    • Proper identification and booking of medical expenses and classification of MLR, QIPs
    • Other special projects and duties as assigned 

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • CPA preferred
    • 5+ years of accounting experience with 2+ years of commercial health insurance accounting
    • VBA or similar health insurance software experience a plus
    • NetSuite experience a plus
    • Experience at large group commercial health insurance provider (Blue Cross, Anthem, United, Kaiser, Aetna, Cigna etc.) strongly preferred
    • Continuous improvement mind set
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Proficiency in collaboration and delegation of duties
    • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills
    • Must thrive in a fast-paced environment
