    Red Rabbit is a Black-owned School Food Management Company that works with hundreds of schools, districts, and food banks to uplift communities of color throughout the North East and Mid-Atlantic Regions.

    Our professionally trained chefs create menus, source farm fresh ingredients, and cook delicious, thoughtful, and familiar food. Our food matters not only because it's integral to good health, but because what children eat is an essential part of their cultural identity and sense of self.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

    The Bread Baker is an exciting opportunity to launch and manage Red Rabbit's new bread bakery.  Leading a team of 2 - 3 bakers, you will be responsible for baking a variety of breads including pullmans, focaccia, rolls, and baguettes.  The role offers an expert baker autonomy to create bread from start to finish within the structure of our larger commissary kitchen in East Harlem.

    The ideal candidate will have had leadership experience in a high volume bakery and come to the position with recipes that have been tested and refined. The ideal person will have a passion for creating equity within the food space and uplifting the communities we serve. 

    JOB FUNCTIONS

    • LAUNCH THE BAKERY:  Using your expertise, you will spearhead the start of Red Rabbit's first bread bakery.  You will create the recipes, determine production schedules, have input into the equipment, and bring new ideas to our menu.
    • PREPARE BREAD:  Mix, shape, and bake hundreds of loaves of bread -- sandwich bread, focaccia, rolls, and baguettes -- from scratch on a daily basis.  All bread must be whole wheat. Ensure accurate inventory of ingredients at all times. 
    • LEADERSHIP:  Train and lead a team of 1-3 bakers who will assist in all aspects of bread production. Engage team members and create a supportive environment that encourages team cohesion, member retention, and excellent performance.

    SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

    • 2+ years experience in high volume baking
    • 1+ years of supervisory experience leading a team of bakers
    • Must have recipes for various bread items that can be made with whole wheat flour
    • Experience launching a new baking program or opening a bakery a plus
    • Demonstrated knowledge of proper food safety and sanitation practices 
    • Must have NYC food handlers license or certificate
    • Must be reliable, function well within a team and work calmly and efficiently in a fast moving environment
    • Must have a great attitude who contributes to a positive working environment
    • Must share our passion for improving nutrition and health in schools
    • Must be able to read and write in English.  Bilingual (English and Spanish) a plus.
    • Must be able to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis

     

    JOB TYPE: FULL TIME 

    Typical Hours: Sunday-Thursday 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM Location: East Harlem, New York Reports to: Operations Director Compensation: $50,000 - $60,000 Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision Insurance / 401K
