    Job Description

    Full-service law firm in North County/Rancho Bernardo seeks an experienced Corporate/Civil Litigation legal assistant with 1 to 5 years’ experience to temporarily join our team while our lead legal assistant is out on leave for approximately 4 months, training to start in August. Our practice focuses on civil litigation, both plaintiff and defense work, and acts as corporate general counsel to various clients. This position is ideal for someone in between jobs who can commit to the stated timeframe, or someone who desires a lighter load or is transitioning into part time legal assistant work. However, the work is full time for the stated time period while our lead assistant is out on leave.

    This position requires fulfillment of both administrative and legal assistant duties, including phones, mail, calendaring, case management, and state and federal filings. You will provide support to three attorneys. The Ideal candidate is Windows and Adobe proficient, well-versed in the California Code of Civil Procedure, well versed in calendaring procedures, calculations, and deadlines, and experienced in performing and coordinating electronic filings. They will have technical and practical knowledge of the rules and procedures governing California state and federal litigation. Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree is not required, but preferred.     Additional description of tasks typical for this position: Draft template court filings, subpoenas/general discovery, notices, declarations, correspondence, status reports and demands. Track status of cases, deadlines and further handling. Research procedural law or local rules and provide attorneys with findings. Heavy contact with courts, other legal professionals, clients, insurance adjusters, experts, vendors, etc . . . Manage office calendars. Coordinate hearings and appointments. Proactively resolve calendar conflicts. Calculation of statutory deadlines for hearings, trial and government claims. Research procedures and prepare filings with respective courts, clerk offices, government agencies and private corporations.
