    Job Description

    Redwood Empire Sawmill is a wood product lumber manufacturing and distribution company with locations throughout Northern California. We have an immediate opening for a Staff Accountant at our Asti remanufacturing plant.

    The Staff Accountant is responsible for providing accounting services and support, based on professional judgement and experience, in order to provide timely and accurate accounting processes and deliverables. This position works closely with the Accounting Manager. Many of the duties cross over with the Accounting department team members in order to provide continuity in the absence of any of the positions. The staff accountant must be able to be an integral team member and work independently when needed. The list of duties and experiences below are subject to changes initiated by the Accounting Manager and upper management in order to accomplish goals as business changes arise. This position is full time, Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm with overtime if necessary.

    The successful candidate should have basic accounting experience, knowledge of redwood products is a plus.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Prepares invoices and reviews for proper pricing for respective locations 
    • Prepare monthly AR aging and yearly AR write off report for manger review
    • Accurately document and record customer/vendor information
    • Reconciling the accounts receivable ledger
    • Research and resolve payment discrepancies
    • Reviews freight and lumber invoices
    • Process vendor invoices and ensure proper approval and appropriate documentation, prior to payment
    • Maintaining freight accrual, aging of outstanding unpaid invoices along with vendors statement reconciliation
    • Performs monthly inventory reconciliations
    • Coordinates inventory cycle counts
    • Assist with resolving inventory discrepancies
    • Creates ad hoc reports and analyses as required
    • Assist with annual financial audits including preparation and compilation of documentation
    • Performs data entry and spreadsheet management
    • Filing/Scanning/Faxing/Mailings
    • Assists with special projects as needed

    ​QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or with accounting coursework
    • 1-3 years of relevant experience in an accounting role
    • Must be organized and show attention to detail, and exhibit listening and communication skills.
    • Understand and follow written and verbal instructions, take direction, and prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
    • Work as part of our team, promoting a friendly and professional work environment.
    • Exhibit a strong knowledge of bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting procedures and principles
    • Strong work ethic and willingness to work overtime when the job requires
    • Strong communication, analytical, client service, leadership and PC skills including Outlook, Word & Excel software proficiency (LumberTrack software proficiency is a plus)
