    Referral Specialist – Ophthalmology (Referral Review, Provider Outreach, and Records Compliance) - Own the Pipeline, Drive Volume, and Protect Patient Care

    Overview

    You will manage the referral process from start to finish. You will evaluate each referral and determine whether it is appropriate for our practice. You will control how efficiently patients move through the system. Missed details lead to lost patients. Strong execution keeps our surgeons scheduled and our referring providers engaged.

    What You Will Do

    Review all incoming referrals for accuracy, completeness, and medical appropriateness

    Determine whether a referral aligns with our providers and services

    Accept or decline referrals based on clinical criteria and practice scope

    Coordinate scheduling and ensure timely patient access to care

    Communicate clearly with referring offices, patients, and internal teams

    Verify insurance and obtain prior authorizations when needed

    Track referral status and close the loop with referring providers

    Manage medical records requests from outside entities and ensure timely, accurate responses

    Handle insurance audits, including gathering documentation and ensuring compliance

    Build and maintain relationships with PCPs and optometrists

    Actively support outreach efforts to grow and strengthen referral sources

    What You Need

    Experience in ophthalmology (strongly preferred)

    Strong understanding of referral workflows, insurance, and authorizations

    Experience handling medical records requests and insurance audits

    Ability to make judgment calls on referral appropriateness

    High attention to detail and follow-through

    Clear, direct communication skills

    Ability to manage volume without losing accuracy

    Bilingual in Spanish and English (preferred)
