Job Description
looking for an experienced Refrigeration Technician to join our maintenance team while assisting our contractors to bring the facility back to operation in Los Angeles, CA. The incumbent will be responsible for preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of plant assets in an efficient manner to improve reliability. This position is responsible for operating and maintaining the plant “ammonia” refrigeration system along with other related and unrelated equipment such as boilers, air compressors, water and air conditioning systems.
Responsibilities:
Monitor and support ammonia system
Adjust ammonia system to procure desired temperatures at different production rooms
Support and maintain spiral and storage freezers
Monitor and support glycol cooling systems
Pump out of liquid ammonia to evacuate system or maintenance activities
Monitor, repair and support chilled water system.
Ammonia system charge knowledge
Monitor and perform repairs on the High Pressure Hot Water system
Support and maintain steam boilers and generators
Operation of high pressure steam boiler
Obtain equipment quotes for replacement parts or new systems
Support and maintain Soak Tank system
Support and maintain air handling units
Monitor and support compressed air system
Assist contractors with facility improvements
Install, repair and modify piping.
Develop related SOPs and keep records of monitoring, repairs, and replacements
Support HVAC utility equipment. Communicate with 3rd party vendors on repairs and service if needed
Evaluate system improvement projects for continuously efficiency
Abide by all safety rules and policies at work including Lock Out - Tag Out (LOTO), personal protective equipment, etc.
Support other functions of the maintenance team if needed
Perform other duties assigned
Qualifications
Associate’s degree in engineering or a related field
Minimum 3 years of operating experience with ammonia system, boilers, and HVAC utility equipment
Fully understand the thermodynamics concept of the refrigeration cycle in its entirety
A plus if you have 2 years experience with boilers (certified) and air compressors
Required certification through RETA as an Industrial Refrigeration Operator (CIRO). If the person does not meet this requirement, he/she may still be considered for the position if he/she is otherwise certified through RETA as a CARO, Level A or Level B Operator under the following condition: it is expected that the technician being hired take and pass the RETA CIRO exam within 6-months from the date of hire. And in 1 year be CRES certified.
Proficient in piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) interpretation
Working knowledge of electrical schematics, high pressure water system, air compressors & dryers, ammonia compressors & boosters, etc.
Ability to work flexible schedule depending on operational needs
Must be a team player with excellent people and organization skills
Computer literacy including MS suite, Google Apps and other professional software.
Bilingual in Spanish preferred
Physical requirements include frequent lifting up to 25 lbs., occasional lifting up to 50 lbs., and infrequent lifting up to 100 lbs. For instances when an employee is required to lift more than 50 lbs and 100 lbs they must work in teams of two or use the proper equipment and tools for the job/task at hand. Ability to walk on concrete and uneven surfaces for at least 2 hours or more; ability to sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; occasional working at heights above 10 ft; exposure to bright light, extreme temperatures, loud noise, dust, gas, chemicals, etc.
