    About the Role

    HJ Staffing is hiring Trash Collectors to support the client's Solid Waste operations. In this role, you'll play a hands-on part in keeping Laredo clean collecting residential and commercial waste, operating equipment on collection routes, and helping maintain clean, safe streets and neighborhoods throughout the city.

    What You'll Do

    • Ride collection routes and empty trash/recycling containers into the compactor unit on the garbage truck
    • Operate hydraulic lift levers and related truck equipment safely and correctly
    • Inspect carts and containers for objects that could damage equipment (rocks, dirt, wood, metal, etc.)
    • Remove garbage and debris from residential and commercial areas and ensure proper disposal
    • Check sidewalks, curbs, and collection areas to confirm they're left clean after pickup
    • Assist with general street maintenance activities as needed
    • Communicate professionally with residents, coworkers, and City staff while on route
    • Follow all safety procedures and City of Laredo policies at all times
    • Perform other related duties as assigned

    What You'll Need

    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Valid Texas Driver's License
    • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug/alcohol screening; subject to random drug and alcohol testing as a safety-sensitive position
    • Basic knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, safe equipment operation and handling practices
    • Reliable, punctual, and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus, not required

    Physical Requirements & Work Environment

    • Work is performed primarily outdoors and is physically active
    • Regular exposure to weather elements (heat, cold, dampness) and outdoor conditions (dust, noise, uneven surfaces)
    • Must be able to exert up to 100 lbs of force occasionally, up to 50 lbs frequently, and up to 20 lbs constantly to move objects, containers, and equipment
    • Frequent bending, lifting, walking, and riding on collection equipment
