Key Responsibilities: Provide comprehensive nursing care to laboring, postpartum, and newborn patients in accordance with hospital policies and evidence-based practice. Monitor maternal and fetal status, assist with labor management, deliveries, and postpartum recovery. Care for newborns in the nursery and special care nursery, including assessment, stabilization, and ongoing monitoring. Administer medications, perform fetal monitoring, document care accurately in the EMR, and collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams. Respond appropriately to emergencies, maintain patient safety, and provide education and emotional support to patients and families throughout the perinatal period.
Monitoring Maternal and Fetal Well-being: continuously assess the health of both the mother and the fetus during labor. This includes monitoring vital signs, fetal heart rates, and labor progress to identify any potential complications.
Assisting with Childbirth: play a crucial role during the delivery process, providing hands-on support to the mother, assisting with positioning, and administering medications as needed. Also, help ensure a safe and sterile environment for the birth.
Patient Education and Support: educate expectant mothers and their families about the birthing process, pain management options, and newborn care. They provide emotional support and guidance throughout labor and delivery.
Postpartum Care: assist with the immediate care of the newborn and monitor the mother's recovery. They help with breastfeeding initiation and provide information on postpartum recovery.
Collaboration with Healthcare Team: work closely with obstetricians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a safe and positive birth experience. They communicate any changes in the patient's condition and collaborate on care plans.
