    Position Overview:

    Greenlife Healthcare Staffing is currently seeking a Registered Nurse (OR General) to fill an opening at a hospital located in New Orleans, LA. This role focuses on providing perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing general surgical procedures, ensuring a safe, sterile, and efficient operating room environment in collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technologists.

    Qualifications:

    • Education: Completion of an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree).
    • Licensure: Active Louisiana state RN license and current BLS Certification.
    • Experience: At least one year of relevant experience is required.
    • Technical Skills: Proficient in sterile technique, surgical instrumentation and equipment (electrosurgical units, suction, laparoscopes, etc.), surgical counts (sponges, sharps, instruments), medication preparation (including local anesthetics and irrigation solutions), and EMR documentation.
    • Soft Skills: Meticulous attention to detail; ability to remain focused and calm during long, complex procedures; strong communication and teamwork skills; adaptability to fast-changing surgical schedules; commitment to patient safety.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Function in the circulating nurse role, managing the overall nursing care in the operating room while maintaining a safe and sterile environment.
    • Perform comprehensive pre-operative patient assessments, including verification of consent, surgical site marking, allergies, NPO status, and implant/lab availability.
    • Assist anesthesia providers and surgeons during patient positioning, skin prep, draping, and intraoperative phases.
    • Maintain strict sterile technique by monitoring scrubbed team members, opening supplies, and addressing any breaks in sterility immediately.
    • Select, open, and prepare surgical instruments, supplies, implants, and equipment needed for each specific general surgery procedure (e.g., laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, bowel resection, mastectomy).
    • Perform accurate surgical counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments before, during, and after procedures, resolving any discrepancies before wound closure.
    • Anticipate the surgeon and scrub technologist's needs throughout the procedure, providing additional supplies, instruments, or equipment as requested.
    • Label and administer medications, irrigations, and local anesthetics on the sterile field, including documentation of usage.
    • Facilitate safe patient transport, transfer, and positioning, preventing pressure injuries and nerve damage.
    • Communicate effectively with the surgical team regarding critical events, specimen handling, and post-operative disposition (PACU, ICU, or floor).
    • Document all intraoperative nursing care, counts, medications, and patient status accurately in the EMR.
