Job Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care to youth residents within the juvenile detention center. The LPN ensures that medical services are delivered in a safe, secure, and professional manner while adhering to facility policies, state regulations, and healthcare standards. The role requires working in a structured environment with justice-involved youth
Responsibilities
Provide basic nursing care including assessment, treatment, and monitoring of residents’ health conditions
Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders
Conduct intake health screenings and document medical histories upon admission
Monitor vital signs and report any significant changes to the supervising nurse or physician
Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid or CPR as needed
Maintain accurate and confidential medical records in compliance with HIPAA standards
Assist with coordinating medical appointments, including off-site care if necessary
Educate residents on basic health, hygiene, and wellness practices
Ensure proper infection control procedures are followed within the facility
Collaborate with correctional staff to ensure safety and security during medical care delivery
Maintain inventory of medical supplies and report shortages
Qualifications
Current and valid LPN license in the state of employment
CPR and First Aid certification required (BLS preferred)
Minimum of 1–2 years of nursing experience (correctional, psychiatric, or pediatric experience preferred)
Ability to work in a secure and potentially high-stress environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of adolescent health and behavioral health issues preferred
