Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a Legal Personnel and Development Manager to support the Legal Personnel and Development department and reporting directly to the Director of Legal Personnel and Development.
The role will reside in the Washington D.C. office with hybrid work capabilities and will be responsible for providing day-to-day administrative support and assistance to the legal personnel and development team. The Legal Personnel and Development Manager is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s attorneys, advisors and staff, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities of this position include:
- Drive and support aspects of on-the-job attorney talent strategies, including, but not limited to, lawyer development, integration, engagement and firm culture in close collaboration with the Director of Legal Personnel & Development, Senior Lateral Attorney Recruiting Manager and other key stakeholders, work to ensure that policies and programs pertaining to lawyer life – including engagement and retention are implemented consistently across our offices and aligned with the firm’s strategic goals.
- Partner with local recruiting and development teams to ensure successful integration of US lateral hires.
- Manage mentoring programs, such as Akin Advisor and Akin Connections, for the non-partner lawyer and advisor populations.
- Manage the firm’s real time performance feedback system, Akin Thrive, to provide attorneys with ongoing feedback to further professional development.
- Manage the non-partner lawyer and advisor evaluation process.
- Working with practice management and practice group leaders, oversee and manage performance management and address concerns throughout the year.
- Be a knowledgeable resource for the attorney development databases in viDesktop including Utilize, Performance Management and Real-time Feedback.
- Oversee the time entry strike exemption process, bar admissions process, compensation and year-end bonus program and Akin JUMP program, as needed.
- Partner with the Director of Legal Personnel and Development to provide exit interview analyses for practice groups and senior leaders.
- Compile and analyze statistical information and create necessary reports to assist with various information requests and surveys.
- Manage the department’s budget, including but not limited to reviewing and distributing monthly local office reports and productivity reports.
- With the Director of Legal Personnel and Development and other members of the Attorney Development team, build new initiatives and programs to ensure the continued professional development of the firm’s attorneys.
- Contribute to department projects and initiatives related to all aspects of Legal Personnel, as well as Attorney Recruiting and Development.
- Participate in scheduled periodic Legal Personnel, Attorney Development and Attorney Recruiting and Development department meetings.
- Supervise assigned department employees.
- Additional tasks and projects as needed.
**Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities): **
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with database applications.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to read, comprehend and follow instructions.
- Ability to communicate with attorneys and staff in an effective manner.
- Willingness and ability to assume new tasks and responsibilities.
- Strong service orientation and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, office and firm management, and vendors.

The anticipated base salary range for this position in Washington, DC is $130,000-$160,000. The actual salary offered will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, years of relevant experience, certifications or other professional licenses held, job-related knowledge and skills, business needs, and the location from which the work will be performed. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package, which may also include a full range of health and other insurance benefits, financial and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility), a discretionary bonus, and various paid time off benefits.
