Title: Professional Land Surveyor (Maryland PLS)

Company / Role Overview
A well-established consulting firm is seeking a Maryland-licensed Professional Land Surveyor to support transportation and infrastructure projects, with a strong focus on state DOT work (including MDOT SHA). The role is office-based with occasional travel to project sites and client offices and is geared toward a hands-on RPLS rather than a survey department manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and oversee property, boundary, right-of-way, and ALTA/NSPS land title surveys for transportation, infrastructure, and site development projects.
- Provide hands-on QA/QC of all field survey work and office processing to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with applicable standards and client requirements.
- Process field data, perform survey computations, and prepare plats, maps, legal descriptions, and other survey deliverables using CAD-based workflows.Review deeds, maps, prior survey records, and other documents to support boundary analysis and right-of-way determinations.
- Coordinate with internal engineering and design teams to support design surveys, construction stakeout/layout, as-built surveys, and other project needs.
- Make occasional visits to project sites and client offices to support field crews, resolve survey-related issues, and attend coordination meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Active Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in the State of Maryland.
- 5+ years of relevant land surveying experience, including work on transportation, roadway, and/or public infrastructure projects; MDOT SHA experience strongly preferred.
- Strong hands-on experience with property, boundary, and ALTA/NSPS land title surveys, including deed and record research.
- Proficiency with modern survey instrumentation (e.g., total stations, GNSS/RTK) and office software for processing survey data and preparing plans (e.g., CAD-based survey platforms).
- Demonstrated ability to perform detailed QA/QC on survey work and take professional responsibility for survey deliverables.
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensure in Washington, DC and/or adjacent states (e.g., VA, DE, PA) is a plus.
Direct experience delivering surveys under state DOT standards, preferably MDOT SHA (e.g., highway, roadway, right-of-way, and related infrastructure projects). - Experience working with point clouds and newer survey technologies such as 3D laser scanning, LiDAR, UAV/drone-based mapping, and associated processing workflows.
Work Environment
- 100% in-office role in Baltimore with occasional travel to project sites and client offices as required.
