    General Summary

    Under the general supervision, maintains the operation of the Center for Rehabilitation Outcomes Research (CROR) including the supervision of support staff and technical staff.  In addition, coordinates the timing of activities necessary to bring overall projects to completion.  Assists with the development of program evaluation objectives, determines the appropriate program evaluation procedures to be utilized, selects the statistical analyses to be employed, oversees individual project progress, produces reports detailing results, and supervises data collectors.  Is responsible for the development, management and integrity of all project data.

    Principal Responsibilities

    1. Coordinates the efforts of support, technical, data collection, and professional staff in completing projects.
    2. Coordinates dissemination of information/research projects developed by the CROR.
    3. Develops evaluation objectives.
    4. Plans the execution of evaluation activities.  Determines the appropriate evaluation methodology and statistical procedures to be utilized.
    5. Trains and supervises data collection through mail surveys, by telephone interviewers, through focus groups interviews, and through extraction of clinical data and medical record information from various sources.
    6. Performs and interprets complex statistical analysis of resulting data in order to solve technical problems.
    7. Prepares technical reports and articles detailing evaluation results.  Co-authors publications explaining research projects.
    8. Uses personal computer statistical software (SPSS Stata); database software (Access); graphics software; spreadsheet software; and word processing software; and PC hardware to meet the specifications necessary for data collection and statistical analysis.  Provides technical assistance in solving personal computer function and operation problems.
    9. Reviews a significant volume of literature including rehabilitation outcome literature, medical literature, and various research publications in order to increase the understanding of the research objectives and to increase the knowledge of research methodologies.

     Reporting Relationships

    1.  Reports to Director of the Center for Rehabilitation Outcomes Research.

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

    1. Work requires a professional level of knowledge in a behavioral or social science equivalent to that which is acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's degree.  Master's degree preferred.
    2. Knowledge of, and experience with, mail and telephone survey research methodology and management.  Includes sampling techniques, survey design and development, and follow-up procedures.
    3. Knowledge of focus group methodology and experience conducting focus groups and analyzing results.
    4. A good working knowledge of program evaluation methodology and statistical analysis and procedures is required. Statistical skills should include knowledge of multivariate analysis techniques such as multiple analysis of variance, multiple regression, logistic regression and factor analysis.
    5. Minimum two years experience interviewing (in-person and telephone) within a social/behavioral research setting or clinical setting.
    6. Ability to use Windows-based office and data analysis software and the ability to solve PC hardware and software problems.
    7. Experience in database design and programming.
    8. A relatively high level of analytical ability is needed in order to solve complex technical problems.

     

    Working Conditions

    1. Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
