Internship In Biochemistry, Biophysics & Structural Biology
Internship in Biochemistry, Biophysics & Structural Biology (2019) Cambridge, MA Biochemistry, Biophysics, Structural Biology Biochemistry, Biophysics, Structural Biology Intern Apply for this job We are catalyzing a paradigm shift in targeted therapy: bringing protein motion to the center of drug discovery. Relay Therapeutics drug discovery engine is built on advances in detecting and characterizing dynamic interactions anywhere on a protein not just at the active site. The team and the tools that Relay has assembled are allowing it to observe the motion of pharmaceutically relevant target proteins and to predict how they would interact with hypothetical drug molecules. In particular, our approach is creating new opportunities for the design of powerful and selective allosteric drugs, which interact with one part of a target protein in order to change the behavior of another part. By placing protein motion at the heart of drug discovery, Relay is pursuing what it believes will be a fundamental paradigm shift within the pharmaceutical industry, ushering in a new generation of drugs with the potential to improve and extend the lives of millions of patients. Your role THE AIMS OF THIS INTERNSHIP: This an exciting opportunity to be a part of a team of very driven and dedicated scientists whose ambition is to help find a cure against cancer. You will work directly in our drug discovery platform, interfacing biochemistry with other drug discovery disciplines to help solve drug discovery problems and answer fundamental scientific questions. WHAT WILL YOU LEARN? In your internship, you will work side-by-side with your mentor, and receive training in protein chemistry with the aim of understanding protein function and regulation mechanisms. You will learn how to perform various in vitro assays to characterize the activity of proteins and study the effects of small molecule modulators. At the end of your internship, you will have gained substantial hands-on experience in working with proteins and have a good grasp of the latest cutting-edge technologies available for their study. Most importantly, this project will give you a great experience and insight into the skills required for a successful career in a biotech environment. Your background This internship project will be most suitable for a bright, highly motivated and dedicated student with keen interest in protein biochemistry, structural biology and drug discovery. Modern science is a team sport so great interpersonal and communication skills are key. Prior experience in protein chemistry or biophysics is an advantage, but not a requirement. In other words, we look for smart, keen, dedicated and meticulous students with a insatiable thirst for knowledge and a background in any of the following areas): biochemistry, structural biology, molecular biology, biophysics, biotechnology, chemistry or chemical biology. If you are thrilled by the prospect of protein motion in drug discovery and are prepared to dedicate your time to exploit all things protein dynamics and are as passionate as we Relayers are in our shared quest to fight cancer, then this Internship is for you. WHEN CAN YOU START AND HOW LONG CAN YOU STAY? We would like you to start and join us for Winter/Spring 2019 (January 2019 start). We would ask for at least a 6 month commitment from you. At Relay, we believe that along with our people, our culture is our greatest asset. In fact, were proud to share we were named as one of the Boston Business Journals " Best Places to Work " in 2017 and we are the #1 place for small companies in 2018! To drive that culture, no one will stop you or hold you back. Instead, we will give you the tools and colleagues to push forward relentlessly and cheer you on as you go. If this is what you are looking for drop us a line.
