    Job Description

    Our Automotive Power Management IC group is looking for a talented EE graduate student to join our team as a Digital Design intern in our Morrisville, NC office. Our team works on PMICs used to power advanced Renesas MCU products here at Renesas. In this role, you will collaborate closely with digital designers to understand and enhance digital IP through SystemVerilog coding, verification environments, and EDA tools. You will use your skills to work with digital logic designs from RTL, synthesis, and physical design phases. You will be responsible for understanding verification environments for these complex power management IC designs. Additionally, you'll develop an understanding of the functional safety standards essential in the automotive industry.

    Responsibilities

    • Interact with digital and analog engineers to understand the basic functions of a PMIC.
    • Interact with verification engineers to ensure RTL enhancements maintain design integrity.
    • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the existing RTL designs for PMIC projects.
    • Work on enhancements and bug fixes as needed.
    • Engage in the improvement of the existing digital verification environment.
    • Focus on enhancing the test coverage, efficiency, and overall effectiveness of the verification process.
    • Write AMS models in SystemVerilog to enable system level simulation with digital simulator.
    • Collaborate in the insertion of SCAN and LBIST, ensuring a robust design for automotive PMICs.
    • Learn and apply techniques in constraint writing to optimize the performance and efficiency of the synthesis process.
    • Support the physical implementation phase, including layout and timing closure activities.
    • Learn and apply techniques for power optimization and area efficiency.
    • Gain an understanding of functional safety standards relevant to automotive PMICs, such as ISO 26262. Apply these standards in the context of digital design for automotive applications.
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams within the PMIC development process.
    • Participate in regular meetings and provide updates on project progress.
    • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and progress
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Minimum

    • Currently enrolled in a graduate college degree program in Electrical Engineering.
    • Basic knowledge of Verilog or VHDL.
    • Basic understanding of Linux operating systems.
    • Strong problem-solving abilities.
    • Must have good written and verbal cross-functional communication skills.
    • Must be a team player and yet be an independent thinker with strong design fundamentals.

    Preferred

    • Preference given to applicants near the end of their graduate program.
    • Proficiency in SystemVerilog for verification.
    • Proficiency with a scripting language like Perl/TCL/Python.
    • Experience in AMS modelling and verification.
    • Knowledge of power electronics and PMICs.
    • Knowledge of physical design.

    Education

    • BSEE required (MSEE/PHD preferred)
