  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    The political affairs intern will conduct substantive research on policies, elections, public opinion, and other political developments in the U.S. The intern will then offer brief summaries and reports to inform the next steps of RDI’s various education and grasstops advocacy campaigns. Specific responsibilities will include: 

    • Researching a wide variety of topics related to liberal democracy, voting behaviors, and policy issues pertinent to RDI’s scope of activities 

    • Writing clear & concise memos for consumption by staff members & the Board of Directors

    • Authoring high-quality articles and reports targeting RDI’s audience

    • Making recommendations for next steps and action items

    • Helping to source, plan, execute, & staff events from small roundtables to large conferences

    • Sitting in on meetings and producing accurate, professional notes and takeaways

    • Various other tasks and special projects

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Exceptional undergraduates, graduate students, and recent grads are encouraged to apply

    • Detail-oriented to a fault

    • Advanced knowledge in political affairs & interested in promoting liberal democracy

    • Experience on Capitol Hill, a political campaign, or a non-profit working on issues related to current affairs strongly preferred. 

    • Open-minded and willing to interact with those whom they may disagree with

    • Creative, organized, an excellent writer

    • Able to effectively communicate with co-workers and juggle multiple assignments at the same time 

    • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)

    • Experience with Customer Relationship Management and relevant online databases a plus

    Additional Information

    • Interns will be based in NYC (barring special circumstances) 

    • Our internships last 3-6 months. Interns can either work full time (40 hours/week) or part time (15-20 hours/week)

    • Hours are flexible and we are willing to work around your academic schedule

    • RDI will provide a modest stipend for full time interns and college credits to all interns if approved by their university programs

    • RDI will offer continuing education opportunities as well as access to members of the Board of Directors

    • Depending on performance and organizational needs, the internship could develop into a full-time paid position
