RenewCO₂ is a well-funded high-growth startup focused on commercializing electrochemical processes to convert CO₂ emissions into carbon-negative materials. What distinguishes us from other CO2 reduction approaches is our proprietary catalyst, which enables an energy-efficient and selective pathway to existing valuable commodity chemicals. Our products can directly access existing markets (mono ethylene glycol, for example, a 40Mton/year market), and our economics are projected to be competitive or advantaged versus current fossil-based production. We will be in the position to offer differentiated carbon-negative products at competitive prices, and thus our potential impact on emissions and society is enormous. We're seeking highly motivated team leaders and members who are looking to make a significant positive impact on climate change and are excited to work in a collaborative team setting.

As an Electrochemical Cell Design Engineer, your mission will be to bring solutions to the design and manufacturing of components for RenewCO₂'s electrolysis cell, mechanical components & system designs. The ideal candidate must be able to create and maintain 3D CAD assembly models, individual part models/drawings, and associated bills of materials. The candidate should be creative, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple project assignments.

    Roles and responsibilities

    • Design and build electrochemical cells
    • Detailed engineering design and optimization of critical components affecting the electrolysis cell performance and durability
    • Tune material, components, and interfaces to fit functional requirements
    • Create and maintain top-level assembly models, individual part drawings, and bills of materials
    • Conduct design reviews with cross-functional team members
    • Down-select concepts and tolerance stack-up analyses
    • Coordinate design changes with multidisciplinary engineering teams
    • Collaborate with suppliers of stack components
    • Performance-driven design of processes and materials to enable low-cost electrolysis
    • Work with suppliers to get parts built and tested
    • Design and execute experimental plan to optimize performance and durability
    • Get hands-on in the lab to build prototypes, develop model correlations, ground assumptions, and refine new technologies

    Qualifications

    • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Chem Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, or other science and engineering discipline

    • Minimum of 5 years of product development experience with relevant electrochemical cell stacks (ex. Flow batteries, fuel cells, electrolyzers)

    • Solid modeling experience (PTC Creo, SolidWorks, Inventor, etc.)

    • Working knowledge of ASME 14.5M-2009 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing specifications

    • Familiarity with modeling and verification of strain of various materials under compression at projected process conditions

    • Familiarity with manufacturing processes including molding, machining, forming, and joining methods

    • Ability to interpret and collaboratively discuss the quality and importance of test results

    Benefits

    • Medical and dental coverage
    • Paid sick days and vacation
    • Diverse and inclusive work environment

    Compensation

    • Competitive base salary and equity compensation commensurate with experience
