Job Description

The News Associate Program is a 24-month, high-intensity program designed to develop entry-level media professionals. Participants in the program will work in a fast-paced newsroom in one of NBCUniversal’s local stations. This program is an accelerated opportunity for professionals with Broadcast Communications or Journalism degrees and / or a minimum of one year of experience within a professional newsroom. The program will include a significant investment in training and coaching from some of the industry’s best. The right candidate will learn the skills necessary to develop into a successful Reporter, Producer or Multimedia Journalist , while immersed in a professional newsroom.

Responsibilities

• Produce multiplatform stories for both NBC and Telemundo by contributing to on-air, streaming, digital, and social platforms
• Shoot, write and edit for broadcast and digital as assigned
• Develop contacts in the community and pitch original stories consistent with our brand and news philosophy
• Work with Producers, Assignment Desk, I-Team, and Streaming Producers to develop special in-depth coverage
• Ability to work a 24/7 shift and respond to breaking news

Qualifications

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Communications or Journalism or equivalent experience
• 6 months to one year of journalism experience
• Commitment to news production or journalism as a career
• Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
• Required On-Site : This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.

• Prior experience delivering taped and live reports
• Ability to communicate effectively on air
• Ability to write television news copy combing the script with video and still images
• Ability to write digital articles and social copy
• Ability to shoot and / or edit video a plus
• Ability to collaborate and work well with others under the pressure of deadlines
