  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    The General Assignment News Reporter will be responsible for newsgathering and reporting for broadcast, streaming, digital, and other multi-platform applications.

    Essential Responsibilities:

    • Cover all news stories as assigned and report the facts on station’s news programs, __ streaming channels, website and /or other multi-platform and digital properties.
    • Cover news stories with depth, fairness and accuracy, upholding journalistic ethics, NBC News standards and company policies.
    • Conduct live interviews.
    • Research, plan, pitch and schedule multi-platform stories or segments that represent our stations’ brand pillars.
    • Work closely with photojournalists or work independently, edit or supervise the editing of reports used in conjunction with news stories and programs.
    • Develop and grow an active social following via social media, including regular posting of digital content that aligns with our stations’ brand pillars.
    • Contribute content and information to both duopoly stations.
    • Perform on air news anchor work when assigned.
    • Make appearances before social and civic groups and at schools and colleges on behalf of the station, as scheduled or approved by management.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Minimum of 2-years previous experience as a Reporter.
    • Minimum of 2-years TV writing experience.
    • Bachelor’s degree.

    • Must have ability to work any of a 24x7 shift.
    • Required On-Site : This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.

    • Salary range: $85,000-100,000

    Desired:

    • Multi-Media Journalist experience and skills in shooting and editing video.
    • Ability to communicate effectively and work well with people while under pressure.
    • Upbeat personality and quick wit.
    • Familiarity with local issues and leaders a plus.
    • Up to date on and interested in current news events and San Diego issues.
    • Knowledge of laws of libel, slander and applicable FCC rules and regulations.
    • Personal initiative and ability to work with minimum supervision.
    • Team player who is flexible.
    • Displays a positive work ethic and can work under tight deadlines.
    • High degree of integrity and professionalism.
