    The function of this position is to consistently facilitate Adult Chapel. Chaplains greet and pray with the churches that are scheduled to conduct the Adult Chapel and help facilitate the chapel service (set up, conduct notifications and confirmations, etc). The Chaplains are vital to growing and maintaining our relationships with area churches and ministers who volunteer to conduct chapel every night.

    5. Strong oral and written communication skills

    7. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint

    8. Knowledge of audio/visual equipment

    9. Ability to maintain confidences

    10. Ability to relate to people at various levels of spiritual maturity

    11. Some formal theological training preferred

    12. Has the ability and temperament to make and respect professional boundaries

    13. Proven ability to network with other divisions and other organizations

    14. Has ability and skill in listening and providing feedback in a counseling situation

    JOB DUTIES:

    JOB DUTIES: | % OF TIME 1. Responsible for ongoing flow of chapel each evening, which includes: Meeting and greeting guest speakers. Meeting and greeting chapel attendees. Opening prayer, offering and final closing of service. Must be physically present for chapel service five days a week, which may include weekends. 25% 2. Coordinate with other members of the Chaplain Team to ensure continuity of chapel services from evening to evening. Oversee schedule of staff Chaplains and fill in holes as needed. Meet on regular basis to review progress and set goals in Guest Development Meetings. 3. Develop and maintain relationships with ministries wanting to support the Vision of the Rescue Mission and support the ministry of the Fralin Chapel: Ensure chapel has a volunteer every evening and be ready with “sermon in the pocket” when volunteer is not available. Maintain volunteer calendar. Introduce additional ministry opportunities for churches and volunteers to the Mission. Extend oral and written thank-you notes frequently. Coordinate transportation with affiliate churches to related events 10% 4. Pastoral Care: Be available for prayer for shelter guests, program participants, staff, and volunteers. Help guests make a connection with visiting churches toward finding a church home. Maintain van pick-up list for Sunday Church Services on a quarterly basis. Hospital visitation for shelter guests, program participants and staff 5. Keep the Shelter Managers and Program Managers informed of any concerns and needs pertaining to those they supervise. Send a report in the event there are any incidents. 6. Administrative Tasks: Prepare and maintain a profile for every affiliate ministry on Google Calendar · Enter information in the volunteer database, iVolunteer. Maintain nightly statistics on all Chapel services. Complete month-end statistical reports. Develop various PowerPoint and other media presentations for chapel communication and services. 10% 7. Represent the Rescue Mission at local agencies and in the community, such as the Southeast Roanoke Christian Partnership or Church Women United. Communicate to the Rescue Mission opportunities offered by the Partnership and in the Community. 5% 8. Volunteer Engagement is a strategy that builds the capacity of the Rescue Mission through employee and volunteer partnership. It is built on the development and implementation of high-impact, meaningful volunteer opportunities that create positive outcomes for the organization and the volunteer. 9. Other duties as assigned.
