    Hours of Availability: Full Time Must be flexible to work between the hours of Tuesday- Saturday; 6:30am -3:00pm

    Compensation: $15.00

    JOB SUMMARY The Facility Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment in the Rescue Mission’s Main Campus Facility. These areas include but are not limited to:

    • Mission Administrative Offices • The Fralin Chapel and attached building • Men’s Residential Shelter and Offices • The Fralin Free Clinic and Respite Area • Women and Family Shelter and Offices • Food Services Dining Hall • Learning & Resource Centers • Property associated with The Rescue Mission Campus • The Way Forward Administrative, Academic, & Residential Facility

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Evidence of positive Christian Witness and lifestyle.

    Exhibit professional attitude and appearance.

    Ability to understand and be willing to execute instructions from Mission leadership.

    Strong organizational, written, and oral skills.

    A basic knowledge of general cleaning procedures; developing cleaning tasks and schedules that will maintain a consistent and constant standard of cleanliness for the Mission Campus Facility.

    Ability to multi-task daily cleaning assignments and special cleaning projects consistently.

    Exhibits great attention to detail when it comes to maintaining the cleanliness of the Mission Facility. Willingness to exceed “Mission standard” expectations.

    Possessing leadership experience that can engage residential and community volunteers to come alongside you to complete the daily scheduled tasks and special custodial projects.

    Understanding of volunteer engagement and ability to utilize and appreciate volunteers in daily tasks. Develop a volunteer team that is able to manage daily routine tasks with moderate supervision.

    Willingness to Saturday or Sunday depending on the schedule chosen

    Available to work holidays when requested for janitorial services or special projects, as needed.

    Valid Virginia’s driver’s license.

    JOB DUTIES

    This will be accomplished by both custodians coordinating a schedule to complete daily tasks that maintain the cleaning guidelines and schedules outlined in the Rescue Mission Facilities Custodial manual. The facility custodians will complete the tasks alongside of or in the absence of volunteers from the community and/or the Mission’s residential programs.

    Duties will include but are not limited to • Vacuuming and cleaning floors and carpets • Finishing and buffing floors • Dusting • • Sanitizing and restocking restrooms • Cleaning contact surfaces • • Cleaning windows and glass surfaces • Room and floor detailing • • Mopping • Collecting trash

    Working knowledge of janitorial and related equipment and chemicals needed to complete the aforementioned duties.

    Ability to accomplish considerable physical activity (more than 80% of the job’s duties). May require moderate physical lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds.

    Responsible for “inspecting expectations”. This is accomplished by being available with “hands-on” training, guidance, and supervision of volunteers at every task site completing daily cleaning assignments.

    Responsible for providing your support volunteers each day with all supplies needed to complete the scheduled tasks.

    Coordinate and work with volunteers on special projects and tasks as assigned.

    Responsible for maintaining and distributing cleaning supplies at all custodial stations located throughout the Mission Facility Campus. Working with the Laundry Ministry, the facilities custodian will be responsible for the cleanliness of the reusable equipment such as wet and dry mop heads, rags, etc.

    Assist the Facilities Administrator in managing working inventory. The facilities custodian will provide a periodic inspection of the Custodian station supplies and submit to the FA supply requests that will replenish the Custodian stations to predetermined levels.

    Provide Mission staff with access to the Custodial stations when needed to support the efforts of the Custodial Ministry in completing its tasks.

    Communicating through email and associated reporting software, the status of all custodial assignments to the appropriate Ministries affected by the completion of the assignments.

    Examines building and work areas for repairs, safety concerns, or items that need to be addressed or fixed through the maintenance ministry. All requests need to be submitted through a maintenance request via the Mission’s intranet.

    Attend meetings as scheduled by the Facilities Administrator

    Volunteer Engagement: A strategy that builds the capacity of Rescue Mission through employee and volunteer partnership. It is built on the development and implementation of high-impact, meaningful volunteer opportunities that create positive outcomes for the organization and the volunteer.

    Other Duties Assigned by the Facilities Administrator or Director of Operations

    Because all Rescue Mission staff are called to be Christian ministers, living into our mission statement: (“Helping Hurting People in Jesus’ Name”), they are also asked to be actively involved in a local Christian congregation of their choice. Our employees do not use nicotine products and are asked to refrain from gambling, maintain healthy, appropriate relationships, and make good financial decisions.

    Since 1948, the Rescue Mission has continued a tradition of comprehensive care to those in crisis in our community. The homeless, the hungry, the chemically addicted, the impoverished and the hopeless have all found a warm welcome at the Rescue Mission.

    Men, women and children have found a safe place and compassionate friends in their darkest moments. The Rescue Mission is open 24 hours/day and 365 days/year and provides food, clothing, shelter, an on-site clinic, Recovery Program, case management, and aftercare services. All people in crisis are served regardless of race, gender, creed, age, or ethnicity.

    In addition, the Rescue Mission operates a Donation and Recycling Center, 2nd Helpings – Gallery and Shop, Thrift 460, and has an online store presence. All proceeds from sales benefit the programs of the Rescue Mission.
