Job Description:
Product development in a fast-paced environment of non-toxic prestige cosmetics, personal care, and OTC categories to meet specifications of US regulatory and foreign markets and specifications of defined Customer requirements.
This role will reports to the Director of Scientific Affairs
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Develop new formulations
Develop custom personal care and cosmetic products based on client briefs, balancing between cost, claims and functionality
Formulate, research, test, stabilize, troubleshoot, validate specifications on projects
Research new technologies, concepts, and ingredients
Create ingredient lists that comply with US and EU regulations
Set product specifications and standards for new formulations
Reverse engineer formulations
Manage transfer validations
Analyze benchmarks and ingredient profile to create formulations
Review ingredient lists for US and EU compliance
Maintain healthy communication with suppliers
Request samples, technical documentation, and pricing of raw materials
Follow ingredient trends and stay current on developments in the cosmetic field
Maintain positive interaction with clients
Communicate with clients regarding new product development and questions/issues related to projects
Work with production and QC teams
Coordinate with manufacturing during pilot batching and scale up processing
Write and review manufacturing procedures
Work with QC team to finalize product specifications
Maintain smooth laboratory workflow
Write procedures for execution of formulations
Take specifications (pH, viscosity, specific gravity, percent solids) of batches
Order laboratory supplies and equipment
Maintain and enter formulas into formulation software
Complete lab notebooks for quarterly review
Keep lab work areas clean and organized
Use of technical and problem-solving skills
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or closely related field.
Minimum of 2 years R&D experience in a lab or manufacturing environment.
Ability to multitask to meet deadlines with attention to detail
Ability to communicate across cross functional teams
Creative problem-solving and a strategic/analytical mind
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
Proficient with Google/Microsoft office tools (i.e.: Google Suite, etc.)
