    Resident Engineer / Construction Manager, Transportation, San Francisco Bay Area

    P5 Consulting Services is recruiting an experienced Resident Engineer / Construction Manager for a well established Western infrastructure consulting firm with a large, cohesive transportation construction management team. The position is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, with anticipated work from Oakland through San Jose on roadway, bridge, transit and related civil construction.

    The position is appropriate for an established Resident Engineer / Construction Manager or a high potential candidate near the minimum experience threshold who is ready to learn across multiple project types. Full cycle succession and advancement measures in place for long term growth.

    Core Responsibilities

    • Serve as the owner's professional representative and primary project contact with clients, contractors and approving agencies.
    • Manage day to day construction management and inspection operations.
    • Lead professional and technical staff and coordinate field inspectors.
    • Maintain project quality control and quality assurance.
    • Administer construction contracts from active construction through closeout.
    • Review RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, progress payments and contractor correspondence.
    • Conduct project meetings and coordinate utilities, materials testing, surveying and grade verification.
    • Track scope, budget, schedule, project documentation and delivery risk.
    • Prepare progress and final documentation for State and Federal Highway Administration requirements when applicable.
    • Resolve issues arising from inspection, contract administration, field conditions and stakeholder coordination.
    • Support proposals and future construction management services under senior practice leadership.


      Project and Market Exposure

      The work is centered on transportation and civil infrastructure across the San Francisco Bay Area, including projects extending through San Jose. Assignments may include roadways, bridges, highway improvements, local agency work, transit, utilities, drainage, pavement, structures and federally funded public improvements. Relocation assistance or per diem is available when project travel is required.

      Ideal Candidate Profile

    • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
    • Active California Professional Engineer license.
    • 8 or more years of construction contract management related to roadway and/or bridge construction.
    • Strong working knowledge of public agency construction practices.
    • Caltrans experience strongly preferred.
    • Experience coordinating documentation on federally funded work is highly valuable.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage people, resolve field issues and communicate effectively with clients and contractors.
    • Comfort with active project sites, Bay Area travel, deadlines and field schedules as required.
