    SUMMARY:

    Manage quarry operations and the Mining Contractors for multiple quarry locations. Maintain an adequate supply of ore at the plant sites based on cost budgets, quality, and plant requirements. Optimize all quarry and plant feed activities with a focus on QSHE, plant expectations, quality control, execution of mine plans, developing and implementing continuous improvement projects, and cost controls.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Maintain safe working conditions and practices. Strives to achieve a zero lost time injury record and a zero MSHA citation record within the area of responsibility. Performs work duties in accordance with Quality Systems procedures, ISO standards, and current Good Manufacturing Practices. Ensures that all activities are pursued within operating permit conditions and that there is compliance with all prevailing regulations.
    • Provide leadership and guidance to all contract entities and maintain a high professional standard of operations. Conducts performance assessments and addresses issues in a consistent and timely manner. Reports accurate production/performance information to the departments required on a timely basis.
    • Manage mining at the quarries in accordance with the mine plan. Recommend modifications to the mine plan if conditions change or if mining could be done in a more efficient way.
    • Assure that geologic monitoring and pre-mining ore control drilling and sampling is completed in support of short to medium term mine planning.
    • Manage the overburden placement and reclamation areas. Develop placement and reclamation plans that meet company, environmental, and State requirements for the life of mine plan.
    • Manage the production and delivery of secondary quarry products such as washer fines and quarry aggregate products.
    • Optimize the recovery of high-quality ore by properly and carefully separating high and low-quality material based on ore stockpile specifications.
    • Determine economic methods of quarrying and ore processing to optimize feed stone recovery (maximum recovery at minimum cost by providing the feed stone quality required).
    • Develop and maintain a quarry budget and capital expenditure plans. Manage costs to meet budget and monthly reporting.
    • Develop, maintain, and analyze cost reports for both quarry operation and development activities to ensure cost-efficiency.
    • Monitor rolling stock and crusher maintenance activities and assure completion of planned activities.
    • Ensure that operations and equipment are operated in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
    • Maintain and enhance cost performance monitoring of all aspects of quarry operations including development, production, primary processing (crushing, screening), transportation (on-site and to Plants), and management of overburden, waste rock, and tailings placement.
    • Maintain, negotiate, and improve contracts for mining, drilling and blasting, and hauling.
    • Assure optimal and safe drilling and blasting methods are used in the quarry.
    • Perform work duties in accordance with Quality Systems Manual procedures and ISO standards. Develop and maintain control of QC documentation for mineral contaminant reduction.
    • Be a business leader, including cost, production, sales, and marketing of aggregate material. This includes reclaimed fines and annual aggregate crushing.
    • Manage land and at or near the quarry.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering, Geology, or related field. Minimum of 7-15 years' experience in mineral mining, including a minimum of 5 years' experience in a management position.
    • Must possess experience in software programs to include MS Office, AutoCAD, and Project. Knowledge of Surpac is preferred. Knowledge of quality control statistical programs, such as NWA, Lims, and Minitab is preferred.
    • Leadership, verbal and written communication and team management skills are essential. Detailed organizational, planning, and analytical skills are essential. Record of strong safety performance and experience with implementing established safety programs.
    • Excellent knowledge of heavy equipment capabilities, including experience in the safe and proper operation of equipment used in the mining industry.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and be able and willing to travel 30% domestically between Ontario and Quebec.
