    SUMMARY

    Develops and maintains systems and processes to assure that all manufactured concrete and aggregate products meet customer specifications and achieve superior quality and reliability levels, in a cost-effective manner. Provides support and guidance to the company plant employees in tracking, documenting, auditing, validating and adjusting processes within the Ready Mix & Aggregate Divisions. Manages the company’s quality performance of materials and maintains all QMS programs and documentation to ensure compliance with both customer and internal quality standards. Develops, evaluates and assists in the improvement of quality assurance programs, processes and systems in order to prevent or eliminate defects in new or existing products. Develops and maintains positive and proactive relationships with company personnel and customers thus ensuring mutually beneficial and collaborative processes for maintaining product quality.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develops, implements and maintains processes and programs to ensure purchased raw materials (sand, gravel, cement and additives) and finished products conform to internal and customer standards.
    • Review production schedules to determine workload and specific project assignments for the Quality Control Representatives. Develop and maintain product designs, which consistently meet specifications. Constantly analyze designs and techniques to improve costs.
    • Provide guidance and advice to Concrete Dispatch regarding problems concerning products or services.
    • Advise plant personnel on problems involving quality control and testing techniques, methods and application of design specifications to concrete product.
    • Interpret mix designs or formulas to establish specific quality and reliability standards for specific Customer jobs.
    • Supervise tests and inspections of products at various stages of production process. Compile statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of product.
    • Record test data using statistical quality control procedures. Prepare data in graph or chart form.
    • Investigate causes of defective material and provide advice to personnel responsible for processing materials.
    • Conduct on-going training of both plant and truck-fleet personnel regarding quality factors.
    • Conduct on-going education and training for customers regarding performance and quality factors.
    • Develop budget for Quality Control Department and ensure that expenditures are maintained within budget. Authorized to make purchases for Quality Control Department.
    • Assist the Dispatch Department, Concrete Batch Plants, Aggregate Plant and Sales Department as needed for various projects.
    • Prepare a wide variety of technical reports including concrete, sand and limestone submittal, customer restitution documents, and various certifications.
    • Oversee the maintenance and operation of 5 company vehicles and all test equipment.
    • Possess a level of determination to successfully complete tasks, projects and career responsibilities
    • Meets with vendors, customers and company employees to discuss, review, analyze and resolve quality problems as needed.
    • Visits vendor-manufacturing sites to observe production process and ensure compliance with company standards.
    • Coordinate, design and approves new concrete mix designs and production/operation changes that affect the final product to ensure product strength is maximized at minimal material cost.
    • Develops new mix designs to meet customer requests.
    • Prepares all necessary reports required by internal and external customers.
    • Stays abreast of changes, updates in processes and technology, and makes recommendations for changes as warranted.
    • Provides technical assistance to plant managers as needed/requested to troubleshoot, consult or solve problems.
    • Provides necessary support to area to ensure proper mix designs and pricing are used.
    • Coordinates training and education for field employees to ensure standardized procedures are followed in all areas of the company.
    • Works closely with external testing laboratories to ensure proper technique/processes are used.
    • Visits job sites to audit product delivery, placement and performance processes.
    • Conducts training of employees and customers as needed /requested on basic principles of concrete and proper slump testing.
    • Ensures compliance with all local, state and federal environmental policies, procedures and regulations.
    • Ensures compliance with company safety policies, practices and procedures.
    • Participates in local, state and national professional organizations.
    • Coordinates research and development activities for raw materials, mixes and finished products looking for new and better products and more cost efficient processes.
    • Works with area managers and sales force to develop and conduct technical seminars and training for customers as needed/requested.
    • Suggest and implement new ways to make our business better.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing or construction related environment
    • Demonstrated ability to create and make formal presentations.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in statistical process control techniques.
    • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills.
    • Demonstrated proficiency with personal computer and software packages.
    • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize and to work independently.
    • ACI Concrete Field Grade I Technician
    • ACI Strength Testing Technician
    • NRMCA Concrete Technologist Level 4
    • NRMCA Certified Concrete Professional
